Robbie Renwick
Robbie Renwick is a British swimmer, born July 21, 1988 in Abu Dhabi. Renwick is a freestyle specialist, and his favorite event is the 200m freestyle. Renwick claims that his key to success is preparation and music, and he owns an Irish Setter, which he takes on walks when he’s not training. Renwick studied at the University of Stirling, where he also trains with Coach Ben Higson.

Early career
Renwick has been on the swimming scene since 2005, when he was a junior competing at the Junior European Championships. In 2006, at his first senior level meet, he won a silver medal swimming on the 800m freestyle relay at the Commonwealth Games. Later that year he competed at his first senior European Championships, which was held in Budapest.

World Championships
In 2007 Renwick competed at his first World Championships, where were held in Melbourne. Although he didn’t pick up a medal, he then followed up his debut by winning bronze in the 400m freestyle at the Short Course World Championships in Manchester.

Beijing Olympics
Renwick is a two-time Olympian – he made his Olympic debut for Great Britain at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He qualified in the 20om freestyle, and snuck in to the top eight final. In his Olympic debut Renwick finished in eighth place. 

Pre-to-post polyurethane era
Renwick has swum through the pre-polyurethane suit era through the post-polyurethane suit era, ultimately becoming successful in both suits. But he’s still fighting to break his British Record in the 200m freestyle, which was set in 2009.

Breakout year
Although Renwick did swim at the Bejing Olympics, 2010 served as a huge breakout year with all of his success. After swimming at the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Renwick won his first ever British title in the 400m freestyle in 2010. Within the same year he won his first international gold medal in the 200m freestyle at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, which he claims is his most prized performance .

2012 Olympics
Renwick competed at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships and the 2012 European Championships in preparation for the London Olympics. In 2012 he made the British Olympic Team in his signature event, the 200m freestyle. Renwick went on to finish sixth overall.

 

 

2013-2014
For the second consecutive time Renwick won gold in the 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle at the British Championships in 2013. The same year he made the final in the 200m freestyle at the 2013 World Championships – the final was his first individual final at the World Championships. At his third Commonwealth Games in 2014, he finished fifth in the 200m freestyle and won silver as apart of Scotland’s 800m freestyle relay.

World Rankings
Renwick is training for his third Olympic Games in Rio 2016, and he will represent FINIS at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan. Renwick is among the year’s top-10 fastest 200m freestyle swimmers in the world.
