It’s post-NCAA retrospective time, as we look back at recruit rankings through the lens of now-updated NCAA scoring data. We’ve focused in on the senior class (after four NCAA seasons) and the freshman class (after their first NCAA showings), and now it’s time to share all of our data for the four classes currently making up the NCAA field.
Further reading:
- Revisiting recruiting ranks: High school class of 2021
- Revisiting recruiting ranks: High school class of 2024
We’ll also include this year’s freshmen and seniors to have all the data in one post. You can find further analysis of those classes above.
Notes:
- The data included is only individual scoring at NCAAs. That’s not an exact measure of an athlete’s contribution to a program: many of these swimmers (and others not listed) were relay scorers at NCAAs, scored significant points at conference meets and provided great leadership and culture-building for their programs. This data isn’t a perfect analysis of the best recruits – it’s merely a quick look at the data we can compile.
- Some of these athletes haven’t had as many scoring seasons as others in their class. Some redshirted a season and have more remaining seasons. Some deferred their enrollment as freshmen. Some sat out a year with a transfer. Some turned pro early. Some will turn pro early. Some are hard to pigeonhole into a specific class, international athletes especially. We did our best to group athletes where they best fit. Again, this isn’t a hard-and-fast ranking of value – it’s just the best data we can compile.
- The ranks are from our recruit rankings, typically compiled when these athletes were high school juniors. We don’t include internationals in those rankings, as it’s difficult to figure out if and when internationals will join the NCAA and which class they should be grouped with before they appear in the NCAA. Do bear in mind that our rankings were done well over a year before any of these athletes appeared in NCAA competition, so if you do have a quibble with a specific rank, you may want to check how fast that athlete actually was when the ranking was done before you get too livid. Unranked recruits showing massive improvement curves are some of the best stories in the NCAA year-in and year-out, and one reason we rank recruits is so we can better see which athletes had great rises during their college careers.
- All that said, compiling these ranks is a lot of data entry and a lot of research. If we missed anyone, or misclassified anyone with the wrong class or with the wrong domestic/international tag, please let us know in the comments and we’ll update our data as soon as possible!

JUNIORS (HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2022, COLLEGE CLASS OF 2026)
- Among the domestic recruits, the leading point-getter in this class is Owen McDonald, who was an Honorable Mention recruit coming out of high school but immediately made an impact at the NCAA level as a freshman at Arizona State. McDonald scored 27 points in his first year, 46 in his sophomore season to help the Sun Devils win the NCAA title, and then after transferring to Indiana, put up 42 more points in his junior year for 115 total. Over the last two seasons, his lowest finish in an individual event at NCAAs is 6th.
- The top-ranked recruit coming out of high school, Baylor Nelson has been consistent in his three seasons at Texas A&M, going six-for-six in scoring in IM events at NCAAs, but hasn’t truly challenged for an individual title. His best showing was 3rd in the 400 IM in 2024, and this past season, his 14.5 points were the lowest of his career. Immediately after the campaign, he entered the transfer portal, and has since announced he’s heading to Texas.
- Along with Nelson, three other swimmers ranked in the top 20 scored double-digit points as juniors: Gio Linscheer, Quintin McCarty and Levi Sandidge.
- Linscheer broke through with 36 points in his sophomore year, and followed up with 19 this past season, placing 9th in the 1650 free and 12th in both the 500 free and 400 IM.
- McCarty, who redshirted his freshman year and scored one point as a sophomore, had his breakthrough NCAAs by placing 8th in the 50 free and 13th in the 100 back, setting respective best time of 18.62 and 44.56 in the prelims.
- Sandidge had his big breakthrough swim come in his freshman year at SECs, winning the mile, and he followed up by placing 6th at NCAAs one month later. After not scoring last season, he bounced back with an 8th-place showing in the 1650 free at NCAAs as a junior, giving him 11 points on the season and 24 total.
- Texas A&M’s Connor Foote scored for the third straight season, earning seven points to bring his career total to 20, while NC State’s Lance Norris scored four for the second consecutive year and Stanford’s Josh Zuchowski and Liam Custer chipped in one apiece for their first points.
- Among the unranked domestic recruits, Jonny Kulow was the lone one to score as a freshman and he’s continued to be the highest-scoring one in that group in each of the last two seasons. One of the top swimmers who stayed at Arizona State last offseason, Kulow had a career-best performance in 2025 with 25 individual points, placing 6th in the 100 free and 7th in the 50 free after setting new best times in the prelims (18.56/40.83).
- Five unranked recruits scored for the first time as juniors, led by Arizona’s Haakon Naughton, who was 12th in the 200 fly after placing 35th in his debut in 2024. Cal’s Hank Rivers also scored in the 100 breast (16th) after he didn’t earn an NCAA invite in his first two seasons (he was .01 off the cutline last season in the 200 breast).
- International swimmers have dominated the scoring ranks in this class, with Canadian Josh Liendo blowing past the 150-point barrier this season and Hungarian Hubert Kos nearing it with a perfect NCAA performance.
- Liendo has scored 171 out of a possible 180 individual points through three NCAA seasons, including a perfect 60-point performance in 2024 when he swept the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly. The Florida Gator has won three straight titles in the 100 free and back-to-back titles in the 100 fly.
- Kos scored 85 points across his first two seasons in the NCAA at Arizona State, but didn’t win an individual title until transferring to Texas this past season, sweeping the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM for a perfect 60-point showing. That included new all-time records in the 100 back (43.20) and 200 back (1:34.21).
- Brazilian Gui Caribe and Hungarian Zalan Sarkany have increased their point totals in each of their three seasons in the NCAA, with Caribe’s career-high of 41 this past season for Tennessee giving him 91 overall. Caribe climbed the all-time rankings with some blistering swims to place 3rd in the 50 free (18.26) and 100 free (40.15), and he was also 9th in the 100 fly (44.31).
- Sarkany, who, like McDonald and Kos, swam the first two seasons of his career at Arizona State, transferred to Indiana alongside McDonald last offseason, and won the first individual title of his career in 2025 in the 1650 free, posting a time of 14:21.29. He was also 7th in the 500 free, giving him 32 points on the year and 68 overall.
- Breaking out and scoring for the first time this season was Yale’s Noah Millard, an Australian native who placed 23rd in the 500 free as a freshman and then redshirted his sophomore campaign. In 2024-25, he returned to the NCAA with a bang, winning Ivy League titles in the 500 (4:07.68) and 1650 free before placing 4th in the mile (14:28.43) and 9th in the 500 at NCAAs to score 24 points.
- Three divers sit well ahead of the rest in this class in NCAA scoring, with Texas’ Nick Harris leading the way with 39 career points and Indiana’s Maxwell Weinrich posting the most amount of points in his junior year with 19, placing 7th on 3-meter and 10th on platform. LSU’s Carson Paul matches Weinrich’s career total with 38 points, finishing 9th on platform and 15th on 3-meter last season after taking 7th on platform and 12th on 3-meter in 2024.

SOPHOMORES (HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2023, COLLEGE CLASS OF 2027)
- Coming out of this class’s freshman year, Ilya Kharun was the highest-scoring swimmer after their first NCAAs by a wide margin, having put up 39 in his first year at Arizona State. Although Kharun wasn’t the top sophomore scorer this season, he remains the top scorer overall, putting up 48 for the Sun Devils for 87 total points. After winning the 200 fly title as a freshman, Kharun was 2nd in the 100 fly, 3rd in the 200 fly, and 4th in the 50 free this past season.
- Emerging with a massive 57-point outing at his second NCAAs was Rex Maurer, the top-ranked recruit coming out of high school who swam at Stanford his freshman year and didn’t score in his NCAA debut. After transferring to Texas in the offseason, Maurer was on fire all season, setting a new American Record in the 500 free (4:04.45) in November and then winning NCAA titles in the 500 free and 400 IM (3:34.00) in March. He was also the runner-up in the 1650 free in a best time of 14:25.22, showing remarkable improvement in one year at Texas after being relatively stagnant at Stanford.
- Two other top recruits in this class who originally committed to Texas and have thrived there are Will Modglin and Nate Germonprez, who both scored double-digit points as freshmen and more than doubled their totals as sophomores. Modglin was 7th in the 100 back and 8th in the 200 back for 23 points, and would’ve had more had he not been disqualified in the ‘A’ final of the 200 IM. Germonprez was 3rd in the 100 breast and 9th in the 200 breast (1:49.71 would’ve been 5th in ‘A’ final) for 25 points. The duo also swam on Texas’ winning 200 medley relay and runner-up 400 medley relay.
- The other member of the top five in this class coming out of high school, Florida’s Scotty Buff, placed 5th in the 100 fly in a PB of 43.95 to score 14 points after he was 12th in his freshman year. Buff has also been a valuable relay player for the Gators, and is knocking on the door of scoring in a second event (was 23rd in 50 free and 32nd in 100 back).
- Florida’s Jonny Marshall, the #20 recruit in this class, has been a backstroke force for the Gators through two seasons, following up a 26-point freshman year with 31 this past season. Marshall was the runner-up in the 100 back with the second-fastest swim ever (43.22), and also placed 5th in the 200 back. Although he represents Great Britain internationally, Marshall was ranked as a domestic recruit in this class since he was part of the U.S. club system with the Firestone Akron Swim Team.
- Georgia’s Tomas Koski, who, similar to Marshall, doesn’t represent the U.S. internationally (Finland) but was part of the domestic rankings as an Honorable Mention, narrowly missed scoring as a freshman, placing 18th in the 500 free, but elevated his game in his sophomore year. After setting bests of 1:30.70 and 4:08.25 in the 200 and 500 free at SECs, Koski was 5th in the 500 and 6th in the 200 free at NCAAs, and also set a PB of 14:38.20 to place 12th in the mile, finishing with 31.5 points.
- Among the unranked domestic recruits, Michigan’s Colin Geer leads the way after he was really only one in the group to score last season, with NC State’s Daniel Diehl moving into this group after graduating high school early (ranked #2 in the high school class of 2024). After three points as a freshman, Geer was 8th in the 200 fly and 10th in the 200 IM for 18 points as a sophomore after winning the Big Ten title in the 200 fly.
- The top unranked scorer from this class in 2025 was Kentucky’s Carson Hick, who set a massive best time of 14:30.35 in the 1650 free at NCAAs to place 6th, and he also earned a second swim in the 500 free (4:10.27) to score 19 points. In his freshman year, Hick finished 19th in the mile and 25th in the 500 free.
- Two of the three international swimmers in this class who have scored at NCAAs represent LSU, as Croatian Jere Hribar has compiled 23 points through two seasons while Bosnia and Herzegovinian Jovan Lekic broke through this year by placing 8th in the 500 free. Hribar was 11th in the 50 free as a freshman, and then took 12th in the 50 and 7th in the 100 free this past season.
- USC’s Krzysztof Chmielewski has scored double-digit points in both of his NCAA appearances, including taking on the 1650 free (4th) and 200 fly (16th) double on Saturday during last year’s meet for 16 points. As a sophomore, he placed 6th in the 200 fly and 13th in the 500 free for 17 points, bringing his career tally up to 33.
- Georgia Tech’s Max Fowler took over as the top diving scorer through two seasons after placing 6th on 1-meter and 12th on 3-meter in his sophomore year. As a freshman, he narrowly missed scoring, placing 19th on 3-meter.
- Purdue’s Maxwell Miller is the only diver in this class to have scored in both seasons, earning a pair of consolation final appearances in the springboard events this past season adfter taking 12th on 1-meter as a first-year.

I got lots of down votes when I said it before, but the data don’t lie. NC State had better recruiting than coaching. Almost none of their top recruits have done well.
Arsenio and Aiden have done amazing in the years without injury
It seems to me bad luck to be a domestic “ranked” swimmer. The Unranked do better and the foreign swimmers are even more impactful!?
More into ranking than just based on times.
kinda sums up the state of us swimming on the mens side — getting mopped up by the rest of the world left and right
The scoring landscape at next year’s NCAA meet is going to look night and day different than the past couple years
This year’s freshman/sophomore classes (as a whole) haven’t scored a ton of points (likely because of redshirts/5Ys) but are going to be the big players in the years to come
