The 2023 Belgian Open Swimming Championships concluded over the weekend with several national records biting the dust when all was said and done in Antwerp.

Lucas Henveaux fired off new marks in the men’s 200m free and 400m free while Noah De Schryver hit a new Belgian standard in the men’s 200m breast. Florine Gaspard also joined the party with a new standard in the 50m breast.

18-year-old Roos Vanotterdijk came close to several of her national records over the course of the final 2 days of the competition.

The teen topped the women’s 400m free podium in a time of 4:10.53, a mark which checked in just over her Belgian standard of 4:09.41 put on the books in 2020.

She also snagged the 100m free title in a time of 54.56, a result which fell just .05 outside her lifetime best of 54.51 posted in February of this year. Valentine Dumont was also under 55 seconds in the race, registering 54.96 for silver.

The 100m back also fell victim to Vanotterdijk as she hit a time of 59.87. That put her own national record of 59.62 on notice, a time she scored in February of this year.

Vanotteridijk also did damage in both the 50m back and 50m fly events, grabbing the gold in each. She logged a time of 28.16 in the former and 26.60 in the latter to complete her successful open championships campaign.

Visiting swimmer Florent Manaudou of France put his sprinting prowess on display, taking both the men’s 50m free and 50m fly events with relative ease.

The 32-year-old multi-Olympic medalist posted a time of 21.98 in the 50m free to earn the sole time under the 22-second barrier. The time represents his first 21-point 50m free on the season, rendering him the 17th-fastest performer thus far.

Manaudou. Manaudou and Ervin. Manaudou and Ervin. Ervin. Ervin. 16 years on, he wins the gold again. 16 years later, he wins the gold again.

Dude won at 19 by dropping a half second. Don’t think he’s worried about it

Why are non Belgians competing at the Belgian national meet and setting Belgian national records? This sport makes no sense!

They haven’t set any American records just yet, but when they do I will have an issue.

Come on dude, Summer Macintosh holds the 400im us open record (with a better time than the american record)
It’s the same difference than between a pool record and a club record, open records are basically pool records on a country-sized scale, whereas national records are more akin to club records. The fact that your club mostly swims in that pool doesn’t it’ll have all the pool records

New at swimming?

Cate Campbell (Australia) held US open record in 100 free from 2008 until Sjostrom (Sweden) broke it just before Rio

My favorite for Paris gold in the 50 if caeleb isn’t back. Regardless it’s his home and could win anyway

Would be first male to have regain the Olympic 50 free title after losing it.

Well bad news for you unfortunately.
Dressel is already back in the pool since the beginning of this year and is targeting Paris and here is a recent post by Remel’s agent announcing a new sponsor Purina Pro Plan for his dog with the hashtag #Paris2024🇫🇷

Not to mention that with the new schedule the 50 free is before the 100 fly, which is going to make Remel even more untouchable and if he doesn’t swim the 100 free individually, the 50 will be his first event and he will be in 20.9-21.0 range.
