Leon Marchand & Bob Bowman FULL NCAA Team Champion Interview

2024 MEN’S NCAA SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

After winning Arizona State’s first NCAA swimming team championship in history, head coach Bob Bowman and star swimmer Leon Marchand sat down to speak with the media. As a fun tidbit, usually, these are longer, but half of this interview was in French, as 8-10 members of the French press made the trip all the way to Indianapolis just to speak with Leon.

This guy is the best swimmer in the world by far. Could he get 6 individual gold medals in Paris and surpass Michael’s 5 in Beijing? 200-400 im, 200-400 free, 200 breast, 200 fly.

No gold in the 200 and 400 free

His ceiling is prob 4 golds: 200/400 IM, 200 fly, 200 breast. Even that would be super hard as the 200 breast and fly are on the same day and he’d be competing against world record holders in those events. Most likely outcome would prob be either 2 or 3 golds

I’m sorry for the USA’s 400 medley relay and the american’fan, but if Manaudou is capable to swim 48″ in Paris, i think that Léon with the french team as a chance to win the 400 medley relay…

In order for France to have a chance to win, we would have to change the rules to allow Léon Marchand to swim, in the same relay, the 100 breast and the 100 free (it’s not a joke but it’s April 1st I think!)

The 200 free, it’s sure that léon wil not swimm it, and about the 400 free he has already said no, but it was before his incredible record on 500 yards free. Did he change his mind, i’m not sure.

LC freestyle is a different animal and he’s not going 3:40 so would be a waste of energy especially paired with the 400 IM and would likely sabotage his later events as well

It’s kinda weird seeing Bob doing a press conference with someone who isn’t Michael lol, I don’t know why I got caught off guard, dude’s been retired for 7 years.
