WEST CHESTER, PA. – Lehigh women’s swimming and diving swept West Chester and Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon at Graham Natatorium to open up the season with three straight wins. The Mountain Hawks defeated the Golden Rams 112-108 while picking up a 160-62 victory over the Huskies.
After winning four events Friday night, Willa Werwaiss picked up right where she left off, winning all three events she competed in on Saturday. Werwaiss won the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.48), the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.98) and was on the winning 400-yard medley relay team alongside Zoe Davies, Clara Moschella and Caitlin Deitch. They came in first with a time of 3:53.26
Mairin Ludwig had another successful day, winning the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.53) while taking second place in the 200-yard IM (2:07.97). Teammate Eliza Meth was right behind Ludwig in the 200-yard IM as she came in third place with a time of 2:11.61. Meth also had a second-place finish of her own, coming in second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.29.
Senior diver Sarah Gill had another incredible performance on the boards, picking up the first sweep of the season with wins in the one-meter dive and the three-meter dive. Gill won the one-meter dive with 241.20 points and took home a first-place finish in the three-meter dive with 236.33 points.
Kate Whitaker took home a pair of third-place finishes in the one-meter dive (195.53) and the three-meter dive (227.70).
Senior Natalie Martin had a couple of second-place finishes, coming in second in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:59.93) and second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.23).
The Mountain Hawks will have a break before taking on Colgate on Nov. 2 in Hamilton, N.Y.

WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University’s women’s swimming and diving program split a tri-meet against Lehigh and Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon inside Graham Natatorium.
West Chester topped Bloomsburg by the measure of 155-59 while narrowly being edged by Lehigh, 112-108. Along the way, the Golden Rams took first place in XX events to help the team to victory.
Dani Stewart (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) won the 1650-yard freestyle and was runner-up in the 500 free. Her winning time in the 1650 was 17:49.77. Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) won the 200 individual medley while her sister, Sam Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) led off the 200 free relay that was a winner. Kil was followed by Ditta Kowalik (State College, Pa./State College Area), and a pair of local products, Sam Heiland (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and Shannon Gamble (West Chester, Pa./Henderson). Kowalik also finished third in the 1650.
Madelyn Koehle (State College, Pa./State College Area) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.26. Susana Ungo Quero (Madrid, Spain) won the 200 butterfly in 2:04.31. She was also second in the 200 free.
Off the diving boards on North Campus inside Hollinger Field House, Kacey Lenz (Swarthmore, Pa./Ridley) was second in the 1-meter springboard competition while Alicia McHugh (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) was fourth. The two switched positions in the 3m event with McHugh taking runner-up and Lenz placing fourth.
West Chester will be back in action Nov. 21-23 when the Golden Rams travel to Gambier, Ohio and Kenyon University for the Total Performance Invitational.
WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University’s men’s swimming and diving program swept a tri-meet against Lehigh and Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon inside Graham Natatorium.
West Chester topped Lehigh by a score of 159-81 while downing Bloomsburg by the measure of 190-45. Along the way, the Golden Rams took first place in 10 of 13 events to help the team to victory.
Boden Burkhart (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) was a double-winner in the diving events up at North Campus Pool inside Hollinger Field House. He took first place in both the 1-meter and 3m springboard competition. He posted 251.10 points off the 1m board and 239.10 off the 3m board. Freshmen Dominick Horning (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) and Michael Finlaw (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) were second and third behind Burkhart on both boards. Horning was second off the 1m with 174.3 points while placing third off the 3m with 157.95. Finlaw was runner-up off the 3m board with 163.95 points and third off the 1m with 173.10.
In the pool, grad student Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown) won the 100-yard freestyle while also helping both relays to first-place showings. Benner won the 100 free in 46.65 seconds. Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) won the 50 free while finishing runner-up to Benner in the 100. He also played a role on the 200 free relay that was a winner.
Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) won the 1650 free for the Golden Rams. Danny Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) won the 500 free (4:41.46) as West Chester dominated the distance events once again. Demesy was runner-up to Dunigan in the 500 free (4:42.74).
Joel Dunnigan (York, Pa./Dallastown) won the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:55.89. Meanwhile both the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay were winners. Dunnigan swam a leg of the 200 free relay as well.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Senior Rylee Wenzel (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) won a pair of races as she led the Bloomsburg women’s swimming team to 11 individual Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) times against West Chester and Lehigh on Saturday.
Wenzel won the 50-yard free with a time of 24.16, a PSAC qualifying time. The senior then won the 100-yard free with a PSAC time of 52.70.
Megan Holmes picked up a PSAC time in the 200-yard free with a time of 2:01.51 as she took sixth over all. Holmes then finished fourth in the 100-yard free with a PSAC time of 54.41.
Sidney Beers (DeBois, Pa./DuBois Area) earned a pair of spots in the PSAC championships as she took sixth in the 50-yard free at 25.34 and sixth in the 100-yard free at 55.78.
Grace McBlain (Aldan, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) took fourth overall in the 200-yard butterfly with a PSAC time of 2:13.82 and eighth in the 200-yard back with a time of 2:14.70. Joining McBlain with a PSAC time in the 200-fly was Jordyn Kinnee (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) with a time of 2:18.43 to take seventh. Gabi Walsh (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) finished fifth in the 200-back to take fifth overall with a PSAC time of 2:12.89.
Sadie Ludwick (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) took sixth overall in the 200-yard breaststroke with a PSAC time of 2:35.36.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Beers, Madison Osanitsch (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg), Julia Riegel (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South), and Walsh took third overall with a time of 1:43.17 to close out the meet. The team of Walsh, Vanesa Valli (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk), Wenzel, and Holmes opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:02.65.
Bloomsburg gets back in the pool Friday, November 1 when the Huskies host Kutztown and Edinboro in their first home meet of the year at 5:00 p.m.
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men’s swimming team defeated Shippensburg 147-56 Saturday afternoon behind 12 PSAC qualifying times from nine different swimmers and 22 top-three finishes.
Peter Angotti (Auburn, N.Y./Southern Cayuga), Connor McClurkin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), Ethan Coffman (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area), and Andrew Holmes (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.97. Adler Zawodny (Hellertown, Pa./CCA), Sean Witmer (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg), Connor Hunt (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby), and Tyler Tinsley (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) finished third with a time of 1:38.87.
Michael Huegel (Springfield, Pa./Spriingfield) won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:31.65 while Luke Willard (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) took second with a time of 10:41.44. Ethan Robertson (/) completed the sweep of the top-three with a third-place finish at 10:57.91.
Brayden Kemezis (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) won his first collegiate race as he took first in the 200-free with a PSAC time of 1:46.34. Coffman came in second with his PSAC time of 1:48.55. Holmes kept the winning going as he won the 50-free with a PSAC time of 21.75 and Ian Hamilton (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) took second with a PSAC time of 22.05.
Nick Zaffino won the fourth-straight event for the Huskies as he took first in the 200-yard IM with a PSAC time of 1:59.61. Tanner Glatfelter (Dover, Pa./Dover) came in second with a time of 2:03.09.
Jack Drake (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg Area) won the 100-yard butterfly for the fifth-straight win and a PSAC time of 51.81.
Holmes won his second event of the night with his second PSAC time as he touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle at 47.77.
Ian Hamilton (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) won the 100-yard back with a PSAC time of 55.89 and Angotti took second at 56.04. Chad Jones (Akron, Pa./Ephrata) came in third at 56.27.
Matthew Boehme won the 500-yard free for the eighth-straight Husky win at 4:51.66, a PSAC qualifying time, and Coffman took third at 5:01.44.
The Huskies swept the top-three in the 100-yard breaststroke with three PSAC times as Sean Witmer (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg) won with a time of 59.36 and McClurkin took second at 59.42. Nick Zaffiro (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) completed the sweep with a third-place finish at 1:01.13.
Zawodny, Glatfelter, Hamilton, and Drake won the 200-yard freestyle relay to close out the meet with a time of 1:26.94. Zawdony earned his spot in the PSAC championships with a 22.28 50-yard free lead-off leg of the race.
The Huskies have next Saturday off as they prepare to take on West Chester on Saturday, October 19 in West Chester, Pa. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
