Lehigh Rolls To 17th Straight Sweep Over Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – Lehigh women’s swimming and diving rolled to its 17th straight win over Lafayette after defeating the Leopards 210-90 Friday night at Weinstein Natatorium. The Mountain Hawks improved to 5–3 with the win.  Just like last year, Lehigh recorded 15 first-place finishes. 

Pool records and school records were a theme on Friday.  The 200-yard medley team of Willa WerwaissZoe DaviesClara Moschella and Caitlin Deitch set a pool record with a time of 1:44.06. First-year Davies didn’t stop there, setting a school and pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.28. 

Lehigh also picked up a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Werwaiss, Juliana Guida, Moschella and Mairin Ludwig had a first-place finish after swimming a  time of 3:28.15.

Natalie Martin, Deitch, Werwaiss and Ludwig all recorded multiple individual wins on Friday. 

Martin took home a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.04) and the 1000-yard freestyle (1:44.06). Maggie Mikalic finished right behind Martin in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing second with a time of 10:29.25 and Moschella finished behind her in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.16.

Moschella had an individual win on Friday after coming in first in the 100-yard butterfly with a pool record time of 54.48. Deitch finished right behind Moschella for a second-place finish (57.10).

Deitch also swept both the 50-yard freestyle (24.09) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.51). Guida finished right behind Deitch in the 100-yard freestyle, coming in second place with a time of 53.20.

Ludwig won the 200-yard IM with a pool record time of 2:05.02 while also coming in first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.23) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.86). Ludwig has now had multiple wins in every meet she competed for Lehigh this season.

Werwaiss had a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (56.61), while also winning the 200-yard backstroke with a pool record time of 2:00.57.

Once again, Lehigh swept the dives. Senior Sarah Gill won first in the one-meter dive, setting a pool record score of 276.38 points. Kate Whitaker rolled to a first-place finish in the three-meter dive with 259.73 points.

Next up, Lehigh will travel to Philadelphia to take on Drexel on Dec. 7 at 10 a.m.  

EASTON, Pa. – Lehigh men’s swimming and diving took care of business Friday night at Weinstein Natatorium, defeating Lafayette 178-120 to pick up its 33rd straight victory over the Leopards. The Mountain Hawks improved to 4-3 with the win. 

Lehigh recorded nine wins on Friday. Jack DeVilbiss had an incredible night, setting the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.34. DeVilbiss was also on the 200-yard medley relay team alongside Ben KiskerAaron Williams and Tim Norris that rolled to a first-place finish, while setting a pool record with a time of 1:29.76. 

Kisker, Williams and Norris all had individual wins on Friday. Kisker won the 100-yard backstroke (49.38) and first-year Tristan Ronayne (50.62), first-year Davis Woerner (51.18) and sophomore Matt McLellan finished in second, third and fourth, respectively. 

Norris swept both the 50-yard freestyle (20.75) and the 100-yard freestyle (45.28). Williams took home a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a pool record time of (49.16).

First-years Frankie PrekopTristan Ronayne and Jack Deppe picked up their first collegiate wins in The Rivalry. Prekop came in first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.34). Ronayne came in first in the 200-yard backstroke with a pool record time of 1:47.21.Deppe won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:04.37) and the 200-yard IM (1:50.27) .Deppe’s time in the 200-yard IM was a pool record.

Lehigh finished the night with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Prekop, Williams, Norris and Chase Bearley swam to a first-place finish with a time of 3:02.19.

Next up, Lehigh will take on Drexel on Dec. 7 at 10 a.m.

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette swimming and diving hosted Lehigh at Weinstein Natatorium for the annual rivalry meet and senior night on Friday. The men’s and women’s teams fell to the Mountain Hawks, the men 210-90 and the women 178-120.

A total of 10 pool records were broken from a mix of athletes on the Lafayette and Lehigh teams.

Senior diver Shaylee Daniels broke the school record for the women in the 1-meter dive with a score of 267.90, qualifying for the NCAA Division I Zone A Regionals. Daniels broke the school record in the 3-meter dive as well, scoring 255.08. In the 1- and 3-meter dives, the senior secured second place.

Junior Isabella Van Ess broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.72) with a second-place finish as well as the school and pool records in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.14) and a victory.

The relay team of Seniors Maggie Ivie and Sophia Toomey, sophomore Natalie Johnson and Van Ess snagged second in the 200-yard medley with a final time of 1:45.61, surpassing the school record.

Sophomore diver Landon Orth snapped the pool record for the men in the 3-meter dive with a score of 305.18, reeling in first place.

Senior Kurtis Campbell swam for a time of 9:22.54 in the 1000-yard free, establishing a new pool record and garnering first.

Swimming for the women, Ivie secured second in the 100-yard backstroke with a final time of 58.31. Freshman Sarah Green captured a second-place finish in the 50-yard free, finishing in 24.53. Junior Emma Luttrell placed third in the 1000-yard free (10:36.55) as did Toomey in the 100-yard fly (57.87).

Sophomores Diedre McKenna Scudder, Abigail Bebel and Johnson each reeled in a third-place finish in the 200-yard free (1:56.91), 200-yard fly (2:07.48) and 100-yard free (53.42), respectively.

For the men, juniors Tommy Weber and Sean McManus each collected second in the 200-yard free (1:41.63) and 200-yard fly (1:52.91), while senior Avery LeTourneau secured second in the 100-yard fly (50.05). Sophomore Alexander Zoldan snagged second and third in the 500-yard free and 1000-yard free (4:35.77, 9:29.72).

Senior Jack Oleson garnered second place in the 200-yard breaststroke and third in the 100-yard breaststroke (2:06.61, 57.09). Classmate Peter Kawash took home third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.90) and sophomore Alexander Reihl swam for third spot in both the 50-yard free and 100-yard free (20.97, 45.91).

Diving for the women, Gianna Bobrowski placed third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 238.13.

On the men’s side, junior Peter Curtis finished second in both diving events, scoring a 275.78 in the 1-meter and a 301.28 in the 3-meter. Sophomore Trey Telleen managed third in the 1- and 3-meter events (265.50, 231.98).

“It was a great meet. Everyone swam or dove beyond expectations. I couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments tonight,” said Lafayette head coach James Dailey. “We’ve been through a lot the last couple of weeks with illness and injury. They all came back from it and gave it everything they had.”

The Maroon and White will have some time off for training before they compete at Mount St. Mary’s on Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.
