Larkin On Cusack: “Feels Like I’m Learning How To Swim All Over Again”

2017 AUSTRALIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2017 Australian Swimming Championships kick-off today in Brisbane, where double World Champion and 2016 Olympic silver medalist Mitch Larkin will be making his mark on 2017. Competing in his first official meet under new coach Simon Cusack of Commercial Swimming Club, Larkin spoke pre-meet about his new training environment and how he’s fared thus far. Describing some of Cusack’s sets as ‘scary’, Larkin says his past 3-4 months with the storied coach sometimes had him feeling as though ‘I was just learning to swim.’

The 23-year-old also talks about the difference, at least mentally, between achieving a World Championship title and holding an Olympic gold medal in your hand.

Larkin takes on the 200m backstroke in Brisbane to get his national title pursuit underway.
