PRESS RELEASE – LA SALLE WOMEN

PHILADELPHIA – Women’s swimming & diving recorded its second straight win, defeating Seton Hall 178-122 on Senior Day. Senior Carrie Horan led the graduating class with a pair of wins, while the team collectively corralled 13 victories.

MEET NOTES

  • Horan took first place in the 100 and 200 Breast, with top times of 1:07.11 and 2:24.42 respectively.
  • Senior Emily Wolbert had the other notable results from the Class of 2020. She finished second in the 200 Fly and third in the 100 Fly.
  • Sophomores Anne Moser and Sara Rizzetto combined for five victories. Moser claimed long-distance results in the 500 Free (5:10.95) and 1000 Free (10:31.39), while Rizzetto was victorious in the 200 Free (1:53.85), 200 Back (2:05.07) and 200 IM (2:08.46).
  • The other sophomore standout on the day was Phoebe Shaya. She took both events on the boards, in the 1-meter (250.58) and 3-meter (253.13).
  • Freshman watch: Toni Rafferty continued her impressive first semester in the blue and gold. She sprinted to victories in the 50 Free (23.98) and 100 Free (52.36), while touching second in the 100 Fly. Fellow rookies Lauren Fenn took silver in the 100 Back, while Brynn Peterson tallied the same result in the 100 Free.
  • The women bookended their afternoon with relay wins. Horan, Wolbert, Fenn and Peterson took the 200 Medley (1:48.84), while Moser, Rafferty, Rizzetto and Peterson earned the top time in the 400 Free (3:36.56).

COACH’S TAKE

  • Head coach Jamie Platt was optimistic after the win, saying: “It was a great celebration and send off for our senior class. Both teams thrived in this meet on the boards and in the pool. The end of the season is coming quick and I like how we are preparing for success.”

UP NEXT

  • The final meet of the regular season is a week away as the Explorers take the short trip to Villanova for Villanova Sprint Fest at noon.

PRESS RELEASE – LA SALLE MEN

PHILADELPHIA – Men’s swimming & diving maintained its 2020 winning streak with a 198.5 – 99.5 victory over Seton Hall on Senior Day. The Explorers controlled the meet with 14 wins, going 1-2 on nine occasions. The graduating class of 2020 tallied three of those wins through seniors Christoff Ras (twice) and Norm Gregory (once).

MEET NOTES

  • Ras picked up his victories in the 100 and 200 Breast, clocking 57.29 in the former and 2:05.12 in the latter. He also tallied second place in the 200 IM.
  • Gregory claimed the 200 Free with a time of 1:40.42. He also finished runner up in the 50 Free and 100 Free.
  • Sophomore Zachary Wolbert led La Salle with three wins, outpacing the field in the 100 Fly (50.41), 200 Fly (1:49.46) and 200 IM (1:53.74).
  • Freshman Sam Henninger won both of his events in the 1-meter (285.98) and 3-meter (322.73). Sophomore Steven Stasolla followed him up in both events.
  • Other Explorers with one win on the day include juniors Daniel Johnson in the 100 Free (46.36) and Isaiah Gregory in the 50 Free (21.60), sophomore Ian Venter in the 100 Back (50.46) and freshman Cole Dyson in the 1000 Free (9:36.96).
  • The Blue & Gold also took both relays on Saturday. A team of Wolbert, Johnson, Venter and senior Marcus Forsgren claimed the 200 Medley (1:32.67), while the quartet of Forsgren, Venter, N. Gregory and Johnson) won the 400 Free (3:06.18).

  • Only one meet stands between La Salle and the A-10 Championships: the Villanova Sprint Fest. That takes place on February 1st at noon.

PRESS RELEASE – SETON HALL MEN

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. –  The Pirates dropped a tough road set to the La Salle Explorers on the road on Saturday, 198.5-99.5.

Helping to lead the Pirates was freshman Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.) who took first in the 200 back. Pantano paced the pool with a time of 1:51.01. The freshman also earned third place finishes in the 100 back and 200 IM.

Also out front for the Pirates was sophomore Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) who led all swimmers in the 500 free with a time of 4:42.72. The 500 free proved to be one of the Pirates’ best events of the meet with Joe Gibson (Chicago, Ill.) and Caleb Smith (Charlottesville, Va.) taking second and third, respectively.

The Pirates will be back in action when they take on BIG EAST foes Georgetown and Providence in the Berkley Aquatics Tri-Meet from Jan. 31-Feb. 1. The diving portion of the meet will take place in Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium on Friday, Jan. 31 with the remainder of the events taking place at the Berkley Aquatic Club in New Providence, N.J. on Feb. 1.

PRESS RELEASE – SETON HALL WOMEN

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. –  The Pirates fell to the Explorers of La Salle on Saturday, 178-122. It was the final non-conference dual meet for the Pirates on the season.

Freshman Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.) was able to touch the wall first in both the 100 and 200 fly. Cripps paced the pool with a time of 2:05.78 in the 200 fly and then followed up her victory with a time of 57.66 to capture first in the 100 fly.

After some solid swims the previous weekend against Delaware, Marianne Molloy (Toms River, N.J.) picked up right where she left off. The junior took the top spot in her first event of the afternoon, the 100 back with a time of 58.66. She also took second in the 200 yard distance of the same event with a time of 2:05.18.

The Pirates will be back in action when they take on BIG EAST foes Georgetown and Providence in the Berkley Aquatics Tri-Meet from Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
