High school senior Kyle Dean of Jamestown, New York has announced his commitment to join Niagara University’s swimming and diving team in the fall of 2021. Dean attends Jamestown High School, as well as swimming for Star Swimming.
I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Niagara University! I want to say thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for all the support throughout the years! I can’t wait to be a part of such a great team! Go Purple Eagles!!
Dean is a versatile sprinter who specializes in freestyle events in high school competitions. At the 2020 New York high school state championship meet he was a finalist in both the 50 free (21.96) and 100 free (48.63). More recently he achieved new best times in both events at a virtual meet, finishing the 50 in 21.33 and the 100 in 47.46. At the same meet he also added new lifetime best in the 200 free, 100 back, 100 breast, and 100 fly.

Dean will be joining a Niagara team that is coming off a 4th place finish at the 2021 MAAC Spring Championships, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s unofficial conference championship meet. At the 2020 MAAC Conference Championships, the Purple Eagles finished in 9th.
A huge addition to the Niagara team, Dean’s best times would have ranked among the school’s best last season. He would have held the second-fastest time in both the 50 and 100 freestyles, as well as the 100 back. His 200 free time would have also ranked him as the school’s fastest performer in the event. The Purple Eagles were led in both the sprint freestyle events by sophomore Kevin Vu, who will have two years of eligibility remaining when Dean arrives on campus this fall.
