Kristof Milak & Hubert Kos Set To Spar At Hungarian National Championships

2025 HUNGARIAN NATIONAL SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2025 Hungarian National Swimming Championships are nearly upon us with the four-day affair kicking off Wednesday, April 9th.

The competition represents a key qualifying opportunity for the nation’s athletes to add their names to the World Championships roster for this summer in Singapore.

Straight off the back of the NCAA Championships, where he became champion in the men’s 200 backstroke, University of Texas star Hubert Kos is entered in an array of events.

The reigning 200m backstroke Olympic gold medalist is slated to race the 50m/100m back, 50m/100m fly and 200m IM races, which means he’ll spar with fellow Olympic champion and world record holder Kristof Milak.

Milak is entered in the 50m/100m/200m fly as well as the 100m free.

After claiming 100m fly gold and 200m fly silver at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Almos Szabo-coached Milak bypassed last year’s Short Course World Championships. Instead, he stated in November last year that he would focus on 2025 Singapore.

Indiana’s NCAA champion in the 1650 freestyle, Zalan Sarkany, is also ready to rumble, set to pursue World Championships qualification in the 400m/800m/1500m free in addition to the 400m IM.

On the women’s side, Shane Tusup-trained Vivien Jackl is taking on the busiest schedule of anyone, entered in a massive program of nine individual events.

16-year-old Jackl, who is currently racing at the Pro Swim Series in Sacramento, is expected to contest the 200m/400m/800m/1500m free, 200m/400m IM, 100m/200m fly and 200m back.

She’ll face Viktoria Mihalyvari-Farkas in the free events as well as the 400m IM.

Are they going to be in the pool or the boxing ring? Love the headline

Well butterfly is the best stroke for boxing, so maybe they’ll start from either end of the same lane, and then collide in the middle.

Do you just post this exact comment on every article?

Ironically you’re actually not wrong. It seems like Bowman does take a bunch of swimmers who are already wildly successful without him lol

He’s a salty Cal fan, commenting this ironically.

25 years old. Two-time Olympic champion. WR holder. It fits better for the profile of a Cal freshman.

In other news, Kyle Chalmers just went 21.78….

So his front end speed is obviously improving.

Figuring this out 5 years late. No reason to cede ground at highest level when your talent level deserves better. You never want to be the guy who would have won 5 meters later. Regardless of distance the last good stroke should be the one that touches the wall

Not sure about “too late”. He’s the most successful currently active 100 freestyler. He’s just porbably trying to adjust to how the event is changing.

Did I totally miss that Pan retired?

Pan is not as successful as Chalmers – just compare their medal collections.

Not really fair to compare the medal collections of a 20-year-old and a 26-year-old.

I know it isn’t but longevity is one of the most important components of success. Who knows what will happen in a few years? Kyle’s legacy is already set in stone.

Also, Popovici will race at Romanian Nationals next week. He’s entered in the 50, 100, 200 free and the 100 fly

Can’t wait to see if he can become a medal threat in a third event.

He would be a threat in the 400 I genuinely believe

Will Milak respond to Urlando? 🤣

I doubt it. He rarely swims that fast at Nationals. No need to do so.

No hate to Luca, but he’s not on Milak’s radar. The only opponents Milak’s ever had the time for have always been the ones who beat him: Dressel, and now Marchand.

Milak has nothing to prove, he has accomplished all he can 🙂

All jokes aside, I would be surprised if he changes his preparation plan because of what Luca is doing. That’s not what a mature swimmer and someone of his calibre should do. The main thing is the World Championships. I’m guessing 1:52 high to 1:53 high.

Yeah I know he’s not changing anything. And i’m predicting 1:52 high to 1:53 low, assuming he’s been training well

Nora

I really hoped Hubi could swim 200 back. I’m tired of seeing 1:55s topping the world rankings!

Not having this at duna should be labeled a crime against humanity
