In addition to on-deck coaching with the Varsity and JV Swimming Teams daily during the season, the Assistant Coach will have various administrative and support responsibilities. While the season runs from early February through mid-May, there are occasional duties (attendance at departmental meetings, Open House, Freshman Welcome, etc.) throughout the offseason. The Assistant Coach will also help conduct and run strength and conditioning (weights, dryland, etc.) sessions as needed.
This position offers the opportunity to advance and to progressively take on more responsibility. As a part of the De La Salle Athletics Staff, the Assistant Coach has the opportunity to operate Camps and Clinics throughout the year.
FACILITIES
Brother Jerome West Pool is a state-of-the-art, all-deep (7′-14′), 11-lane, 25y x 25m pool. The complex is equipped with a brand new 9’x16′ HD video scoreboard, and fully automatic timing including touch pads and relay take-off sensors. Coaches have access to Power Towers, bungees, underwater videography equipment as well as other training aids and equipment.
The Ladouceur Athletic Performance Center is a new, state-of-the-art Strength & Conditioning facility and The Sand Lot is an additional “open-air” weight room.
QUALIFICATIONS
A high level of playing and/or coaching experience is desired.
All coaches are required to get fingerprint clearance from the DOJ and FBI, as well as TB clearance, BEFORE they start coaching. They have 30 days to complete all required certifications, including, but not limited to, CPR/First Aid certification, CIF – Fundamentals of Coaching Certification, Concussion Training, Workplace Violence Prevention Training, and Anti-Harassment Training.

- Management and oversight for all Age Groups up to Junior at USC and assistant coach for Senior group at USC.
- Primary coach for USC Junior and Age Group 4.
- At USC, provides management, assistance and oversight of assistant coaches responsible for lower age groups as well as any other assistant coach at AG4 and Junior groups.

Evening-based short course summer league team that swims at of USC HS’s pool with established league of summer league teams from other local suburbs. This team consists of a mixture of both PEAQ swimmers and non-PEAQ swimmers and acts as a feeder program into PEAQ’s lower age groups.
- Responsibilities would include running practices, managing assistant coaches and coach volunteers, acting as head coach at all summer league meets, taking lead in communications with parents and swimmers. Expectation during long course is that Head Upper St. Clair Site Coach would continue to maintain long course responsibilities, which includes practices in the mornings, and also managing the summer league team in the evenings.
Potential Additional Sources of Income*
- Middle School Swim Coach for Upper St. Clair School’s men’s and women’s teams – seven (7) week program; September – October annually, for 7th and 8th graders with substantial PEAQ swimmer overlap.
- Assistant Varsity Swim Coach for Upper St. Clair High School’s men’s and women’s teams. Winter season (November – March) with substantial PEAQ swimmer overlap.
*Opportunity for high school and middle school coaching, for the right candidate, with additional compensation from the district. Note, assistant varsity high school and middle school coaching positions are separate job opportunities that will be hired directly by the local school district and not by PEAQ.
- Social Media – additional compensation potential for managing PEAQ’s social media presence for both USC site and other PEAQ sites.

- Additional Responsibilities: Together with the Head Coach, develops and implements of a comprehensive swim club program that is designed to enhance the development of swimmers in all age groups. Communicates effectively with parents concerning their swimmers, and with other swim coaches. Establishes an environment that fosters positive team attitudes and encourages self-discipline, sportsmanship and responsibility among swimmers, coaches and PEAQ members. - Bonus: You will also be eligible for a year-end discretionary performance bonus. Bonuses are typically paid in August following the end of Long Course Season.
