ST. LOUIS – The IU Indy men’s and women’s swim and dive teams defeated Washington University in Saturday’s dual meet. The men’s team won by a score of 174-125 while the women’s team earned the win by a score of 196-101.
The Jags kicked off the meet earning the top points in the women’s 400 medley relay. The women’s relay team of Addy Hirsbrunner, Victoria Surdyka, Lillian Brandt and Emmaleigh Zietlow combined for a time of 3:49.94.
The women’s team continued that success in the individual races with the Jags earning nine first-place finishes. Zietlow led the way, sweeping her three events. The senior won the 200 free (1:49.99), 500 free (4:56.10) and the 200 IM (2:03.53). Fellow senior, Brandt earned two wins, earning the top spot in the 50 free (24.37) and the 100 free (52.52). Luca McGee took second in both of those events behind Brandt.
Samantha Lee took first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:34.77 while Hirsbrunner earned the top time in the 100 back at 59.41. Surdyka and Morgan Frausto also each added top points. Surdyka won the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.23 while Frausto took first in the 200 breast (2:22.05).
The women’s 200 free relay team of Hirsbrunner, Brandt, McGee and Tori Barnet earned first with a time of 1:37.01.
On the men’s side, the Jags totaled eight individual top times. Nathan Rariden, Zach Drotar and Hugo Arteaga each earned two wins. Rariden took the 1000 free (9:26.59) and the 500 free (4:32.85). Jack Gallob finished in second behind Rariden in the 500 free at 4:37.23.
Freshman Drotar swept the breaststroke events with top times in the 100 breast (57.30) and the 200 breast (2:02.31). Fellow freshman Arteaga earned the win in the 50 free (21.05) and the 100 fly (49.58). Isaac Wilson and Turner Long rounded out the top times for the Jags. Wilson earned first in the 200 free (1:41.10) while Long won the 200 IM (1:52.38).
On the diving boards, Alaina Heyde and Sebastian Otero swept the competition. Heyde earned wins in both the 1-meter (271.00) and the 3-meter (267.95). Midori Adams earned second in the 1-meter with a score of 252.45.
Otero took the men’s competition with top scores in the 1-meter (329.90) and 3-meter (350.02). Adam Schmehl earned second in both events (1-meter – 314.25, 3-meter – 312.20) while Levi Vorreyer took third (1-meter – 248.50, 3-meter – 249.70).
IU Indy will next return to Indianapolis to host Wabash and Butler in the IU Natatorium on Saturday, February 1 for Senior Day.

Prior to the meet, the Bears honors their graduating class – Isabella Barrientos, Caroline DeLuca, Rin Iimi, Alice Mao, Noa Miller, Riya Sahota and Roslyn Tischke as well as graduate student Abbey Mink.

Prior to the meet, the Bears honored their graduating class of Devin Bunner, Pace Edwards, Jeffrey Forbes, Kai Garren, Ryan Hillery, Nathan Lin, Elliot Polikowski, Justin Rockaway, and Danny Sibley as well as fifth-years Austin Bick and Kyle Wolford.
