Iron’s Luka Gabrilo, Thom de Boer Discuss Skins Win, Strategic Men’s 400 FR-R

2021 INTERNATIONAL SWIMMING LEAGUE – SEASON 3, MATCH 11

After earning a spot in the play-offs, Iron’s head coach Luka Gabrilo and skins champion Thom de Boer sat down to field questions about the match. de Boer delved into his approach to the freestyle skins race, which he has now won on 3 out of 3 occasions this season, even speaking to his training and how he does a lot of lactate swims in normal training.

Coach Luka explains that their men’s B 400 free relay, which went slower than the DC Trident-winning women’s A 400 free relay, was a necessary piece of their overall match success. Since Iron was short on sprinters, they chose to put non-freestyle specialists in the relay in order to save swimmers like Luiz Altamir Melo who could score significant points in the 400 free.
