The night will kick off with the men’s 100 fly where Hungary’s Hubert Kos comes in as the top seed. Kos has a best time of a 50.84 that he swam earlier this year in April. Also looking to contend for the title is Kristof Milak of Hungary. Milak comes in as the #3 seed after swimming a 51.57 last night. His semifinal swim came just over 10 minutes after he swam in the 100 freestyle final last night whereas tonight he will be fresh for the swim.
Ireland’s Danielle Hill leads the way in the 50 back and was one of only two swimmers to get under the 28-second mark as Greece’s Theodora Drakou swam a 27.99 for the #2 seed. Notably, after swimming the 4th fastest time in last night’s semifinals, Poland’s Paulina Peda has scratched the event, in favor of the 100 fly later in the sesson. Lithuania’s Justine Murdock will now swim in lane 8 after winning this morning’s swim-off as she tied for 9th last night.
After winning the 100 free last night in the 3rd fastest performance in history, Romania’s David Popovici is the top seed in the men’s 200 freestyle after a 1:45.44 this morning. He was the only swimmer under the 1:47 mark. He will look to defend his title in the event tomorrow night after winning it two years ago.
Poland’s Paulina Peda just missed the national record this morning in prelims of the women’s 100 fly and enters semifinals as the top seed. Swimmers will look to crack the 58 second mark tonight after five swimmers posted 58-point swims this morning.
Apostolos Christou of Greece led the way in prelims of the men’s 50 back and holds the national record in the event already. His 200 back national record was notably broken last night. Fellow countryman Evangelos Makrygiannis had the 2nd fastest time of the morning as both will look to stand on the podium tomorrow night.
Kristyna Horska of the Czech Republic had the fastest time of prelims in the 200 breast. Coming into the meet, Denmark’s Thea Blomsterberg was the top seed and she will swim in lane 4 of the first semifinal tonight. Blomsterberg notably swam a best time last summer in the 2023 World Championship final.
Iceland’s Anton McKee will look to capture the country’s first ever European title as he is the top seed for the men’s 200 breast final with a 2:10.14. His best time stands at a 2:08.74 from semifinals fo the 2022 World Championships when he was 2nd. Three other swimmers swam in the 2:10 range so it looks to be a good race tonight.
Hungary’s Minna Abraham enters as the top seed in the women’s 200 free and will swim right next to Barbora Seemanova of Czech Republic. Seemanova holds the Czech National Record in the event and won gold in the 100 freestyle earlier this week setting a new national record as well.
