SCOUTING MiNNESOTA
Minnesota (2-1) is led by 13 seniors who helped the Gophers to a fourth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships a season ago. The Gophers also return the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year — Jakub Maly — who swam to four top-10 finishes at the Big Ten Championships. In the diving well, the Gophers return the team’s “Male Diver of the Year” — Manny Pollard — who led the Gopher divers last season and added 26 points at the Big Ten Championships in 2014.
QUICK-CAP vs. MICHIGAN STATE
Iowa posted a 174-126 Big Ten win over Michigan State on Oct. 17, in East Lansing, Michigan. The Hawkeyes (1-1) recorded 11 first-place finishes. Freshmen Jerzy Twarowski swam to a pair of first-place finishes (200 medley relay, 100 breaststroke) and finished runner up in the 200 butterfly (1:50.45).
NEWCOMERS STEPPING UP
Three freshmen have posted top times in 2014. Thomas Rathbun holds top times in the 200 free (1:40.55) and 500 free (4:33.67), Chris Freeman in the 200 back (1:50.45), and Jerzy Twarowski in the 200 fly (1:50.45) and as a member of the 200 medley (1:30.41), and 400 medley relays (3:18.88).
A STRONG RESUME
Freshman Jerzy Twarowski joins the Hawkeyes following a strong junior career in Poland. Twarowski was a member of the Polish Junior Nationals team, where he was a multiple gold medalist in international junior competitions. The butterfly specialist was also a Senior National qualifier in 2014, earning gold and bronze medals at the Polish Senior Championships.
BETULIUS BACK FOR SENIOR SEASONSenior Grant Betulius returns as the most accomplished swimmer on the Hawkeye roster after garnering honorable mention All-America honor in three events in 2013 – 100 back and 200 and 400-medley relays. The Naperville, Illinois, native is the Iowa school record holder in four events
— 100 back (46.33), 200-medley relay (1:25.82), 400-medley relay (3:09.66), and 800-free relay (6:26.79) — heading into his senior season. Betulius posted NCAA “B” qualifying times in both the 100 and 200 backstroke last season. Betulius swam to the Hawkeyes lone win in the 100 backstroke against Michigan on Oct. 4. The Naperville, Illinois, native recorded a time of 49.27.

SCOUTING MINNESOTA
Minnesota (3-0) is led by 11 seniors who helped the Gophers to a Big Ten Championship a season ago. The Gophers also return the team’s 2013-14 “Most Valuable Player” recipient — Kiera Janzen — who was a three-time All-American at the 2014 NCAA Championships after placing seventh in the 500 free, sixth in the 800 free relay, 20th in the 200 free and seventh in the 1,650 free. In the diving well, the Gophers return Maggie Keefer — the 2013-14 Big Ten Diver of the Year and two-time All-American at the 2013 NCAA Championships. She placed second on the 1-meter diving (338.20) and sixth on 3-meter (331.40).
HAWKEYE NEWCOMERS
The women’s team features 12 newcomers to this year’s roster. Jo Jekel, Izzie Bindseil, Summer Campbell, Terysa Lehnertz, Lauren Leehy, Rowan Hauber, Meghan Lavelle, Shea Hoyt, Nikol Lagodzinska, Mekenna Scheitlin, Morgan Rafferty, and Carly O’Brien all join the team. This group of 12 women features five athletes from Illinois, three from Iowa, two from Wisconsin, one from Oregon, and one from Texas.
QUICK-CAP vs. MICHIGAN STATE
Iowa posted a 196-103 Big Ten win over Michigan State on Friday in East Lansing, Michigan. The Hawkeyes (2-1) recorded 13 first-place finishes. Kabacinski claimed four top-finishes on the night. The junior native of La Porte, Indiana, swam top times in the 200 free (1:52.19), 100 free (51.90), and as a member of the 400 free relay (3:27.67).
NEWCOMERS STEPPING UP
Four freshmen have posted top times for the Hawkeyes in 2014 — Rowan Hauber (100 back), Meghan Lavelle (200 back), Summer Campbell (100 fly), and Tereysa Lehnertz (200 fly) — each hold top times in their respective events. All four relay events include at least one newcomer as a member of the quartet.
STOUGHTON LEADING THE WAY
Senior Becky Stoughton is off to a fast start in 2014 pacing the Hawkeyes in five events. The Peoria, Illinois, native owns top times in the 100 free (51.89), 200 free (1:50.30), 500 free (4:54.72), 1,000 free (9:49.51), and as a member of the 400 free relay (3:16.41).
