Goucher Men Suffer Defeat at Catholic

Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) and Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) continued their streaks of winning at least one event in every meet this season, and Goucher managed three events wins on the afternoon against Catholic, but the Cardinals were able to come away with a 149-108 victory.

The Gophers (2-4, 0-3 Landmark) will return to action at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Friday, Dec. 6.

Goucher started the meet strong, with its relay team of Colin Richter, Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont), Morgan Richter and Sam Davis (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) pulling out a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Their time of 1:42.71 was two-hundredths faster than Catholic’s team in second place.

The Gophers finished one-two in the 100 freestyle, with Morgan Richter (49.78) out-touching Davis (49.97), who broke 50 seconds for the first time this season in the event.

Colin Richter’s victory came in the 100 butterfly, as his time of 56.46 bested Catholic’s Matt Wegner by .97 seconds.

Goucher added six additional second place finishes. Davis (200 free), Jared Herrmann (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) (100 backstroke), Colin Richter (200 breaststroke), Morgan Richter (500 free) and Nelson (200 individual medley) were second in individual events, while the relay team of Davis, Grant Gerber (Portland, Maine/Casco Bay) and the Richter brothers placed second in the 200 free relay.

Gophers Fall to Cardinals in Return to Landmark Action

In its return to Landmark Conference action, the Goucher women’s swimming team fell 145-99 to the Cardinals at the DuFour Athletic Center this afternoon.

The Gophers (2-6, 0-4 Landmark) managed six second-place finishes at the meet, highlighted by two from Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area).

Three of those second-place results came in the opening three meets. Goucher’s 200-yard medley relay team of Kellyn Brower (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge), Craver, Catherine Gepner (West Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Twp.) and Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East) timed in at 2:05.31, besting Catholic’s third-place team by .13 seconds.

Gepner then clocked in at 12:04.99 in the 1000 freestyle, finishing nearly 15 seconds ahead of Catholic’s Sara Pierce in third and just missing out on her personal-best time of 12:02.75.

Craver’s first No. 2 finish came in the 200 free (2:08.02). The other was a 2:44.80 showing in the 200 breaststroke.

Hannifin registered a 27.43 in the 50 free, besting Catholic’s Andrea Durbin by .37 seconds for second in the race.

Marykate Malone (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) was the second to touch the wall in the 200 individual medley, and her time of 2:28.00 was over 18 seconds better than her previous personal best in the event.
