Georgetown Men Edge Out Villanova By Two Points, Wildcats Handily Win Women’s Meet

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova men and women hosted Georgetown. The women got their second win of the season with a score of 215-85 while the men ultimate fell short in a close matchup of 149-151. The Wildcats finished the day with 58 top-three finishes and 21 of those being first place.

Diving got the day off to a solid start for the women’s team with Alexa Fegley sweeping up wins in the 1 meter (247.88) and 3 meter (247.50).  Meghan Scott joined Fegley in the top two on the 1 meter, grabbing second with a score of 232.95. On the 3 meter side, Michelle Kasulka and Scott helped the ‘Cats go 1-2-3, taking second and third, respectively, with score of 244.95 and 237.68. Nicholas Jubilee was third in the 3 meter with a 283.28.

Swimming opened with a women’s first-place finish in the 200 medley relay for the A team quartet of Arabella Lee, Carlota Colomer, Martina Lonati and Lainey Quinones in 1:45.15. The men’s A team was able to grab second place showing with Cole GorsuchMikey ThurkZach Sutter and Patrick Hemingway finishing in 1:32.65. In the 400 medley relay, both men’s and women’s A teams were able to take first place. The women’s relay had 3:30.42 efforts from Lexi ElkovitchRiley Kudlac, Colomer and Amylia Higgins. Then men’s relay resulted in a 3:04.89 finish from Thurk, Hemingway, Gavin Peck and Gavin Jones.

Sophomore Marlene Blanke clocked a time of 10:24.97 giving her first place in the 1000 free. Blanke also won the 500 free where she clocked in at 5:05.57. Not too far behind her was Lonati (5:06.52) and Katie White (5:09.66), touching in second and third, respectively for the 500 Free Blue and White sweep. White also got first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.26.

Freshman Owen Nye opened up his college career with a first place finish in the 1000 free, touching the wall at 9:38.98. He went on to clock a 4:41.41 in the 500 free, giving him second place.

Junior Gavin Jones competed in a close 200 free. With a .68 second lead over Georgetown’s Conor Jellig, he grabbed a winning time of 1:41.20.

Kudlac and Higgins teamed up for a pair of 1-2 finishes in the 200 free and 100 free. The duo finished touched in 1:52.15 and 1:52.73 in the 200 free, respectively, before going 51.72 and 52.45 in the 100 free. Lexi Elkovitch joined the pair in the top three of the 100 free, clocking a time of 52.64. She came out on top in the 50 free, touching the wall at 24.14.

The top-three finishes in the 200 fly went to the Wildcats. Justin Nowicki lead the trio with a time of 1:50.65. He was followed by Freshman Melson Arquillano (1:52.86) and Theodore Morse (1:55.42).

In the 100 breast, Winnie Jalet won in 1:04.76. with Honkamp following her in second with a time of 1:06.12. Honkamp came in first in the 200 breast, touching the wall at 2:21.71. On the men’s side, senior Aubrey Bowles touched the wall at 1:54.40 with only a mere.19 second lead on Jellig to win.

Arquillano achieved first place in the 100 fly at 50.55 with Randall taking second in 51.23.

Josh Seidman came in with a time of 52.58 in the 200 back putting him on top. Christensen was right behind him in second with a time of 52.74.

Lee had a pair of wins on the day. She won the 100 back in 57.42 and the 100 fly in 56.48. Farley followed her in the latter with a second-place time of 56.75. She was also second to White in the 200 fly at 2:04.44.

The next meet on the docket belongs to the men as they head to Rider on October 30 The meet will start with diving at 5:30 and swimming to follow. The women are back in the home pool on November 6 against Penn.

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University’s men’s swimming & diving team captured a 151-149 road victory over Villanova while the women’s team fell 187-85 to the Wildcats.

MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • In the 200 medley relay, the Hoyas finished in first place with a time of 1:32.47.
  • Stephen Kim and Ansen Meyer finished in first and second place in the 100 breaststroke with times of 57.92 and 58.17, respectively.
  • Owen Watkins earned first in the 50 free with a time of 20.52 and the 100 free with a time of 45.90.
  • In the 200 breaststroke, Ben Tunila earned first (2:07.39) followed by Meyer in second (2:08.57).
  • Jack Januario captured first in the 500 free with a time of 4:39.62.
  • In the 200 IM, Stephen Kim finished in first place (1:54.63) followed by Nick Pezzella in second (1:54.99).
