Futures Qualifier Emma Wainwright Commits to Vermont

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Emma Wainwright from Vienna, Virginia has announced her commitment to swim and study at the University of Vermont beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

“I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Vermont. I would like to thank my friends, family, coaches, and teammates for all their support. Go cats! ”

Wainwright swims for Machine Aquatics out of Arlington, Virginia. In Febuary, she earned her first Futures cut with a time of 57.95 in the 100 backstroke. In March, she competed at NCSAs where she was just off her best times in the 100 (58.62) and 200 (2:09.22) backstrokes but she earned a best time in the 100 butterfly (1:00.11).

This fall, she has already shown progress in the sprint freestyle events. At the end of October, she earned best times in the 50 (25.42), 100 (53.80), and 200 (1:57.66) freestyles.

Wainwright began her senior year this fall at James Madison School in Vienna, VA.

Her best short course yards times are:

  • 100 backstroke: 57.95
  • 200 backstroke: 2:08.71
  • 50 freestyle: 25.42
  • 100 freestyle: 53.80
  • 200 freestyle: 1:57.66
  • 100 butterfly: 1:00.11

The University of Vermont is a public university located in Burlington, VT. The school is a member of the American East Conference. The team finished third out of seven teams at the 2021 American East Championships and was only eight points behind runner-up UMBC.

Based on her best times, Wainwright has the potential to make an immediate impact for Vermont at the conference level. Her best times would have earned her a top eight finish in the 100 backstroke and the top 16 of the 200 backstroke.

Wainwright will arrive on campus along with Miranda Schuman, Corissa Freeman, Ellie Fazio, Natalie Schlemmer, Autumn Bullinger, and Abby Miller. Schuman and Schlemmer are both also from Virginia.

For this season, Vermont has a young roster as 19 out of their 42 swimmers and divers are first-years after a huge recruiting class of 2021. The team only graduates three seniors so with seven commits coming in next year already, the team will continue to be a very young team next season that is rebuilding their roster.
