Following his first season of collegiate swimming, representing the NCAA Division II Fresno Pacific Sunbirds, Luke Landis will transfer to NCAA Division III Denison University for the upcoming season. The move takes him much closer to home – Denison is about 40 miles from his home in central Ohio.

In his freshman year at Fresno Pacific, Landis raced at the school’s first six meets in the fall semester and did not appear at any meets from January onward.

At the 2019 Pacific Invite, Landis swam to a 16:45.63 1650 freestyle for a 3rd-place finish behind Stanford’s Grant Shoults (15:03.12) and Andrew Matejka (15:57.78). Landis also swam the 500 freestyle (4:56.61), 200 butterfly (2:04.65), and 200 freestyle (1:52.66), finishing 9th, 11th, and 27th respectively.

Landis’s most recent meet was the 2019 University of Las Vegas Invite where he helped the Sunbirds to a fourth-place finish. There, he was 2nd place in the 1650 freestyle (15:35.88), 4th in 500 freestyle (4:34.62), 14th in the 200 freestyle (1:43.90) and 15th in the 200 butterfly (1:56.64).

Luke Landis 2019/2020 Season Bests

  • 200 yard freestyle – 1:43.90
  • 500 yard freestyle – 4:31.99
  • 1000 yard freestyle 10:03.94
  • 1650 yard freestyle – 15:35.88
  • 200 yard butterfly – 1:53.69
  • 200 yard backstroke –  2:03.43

Landis will head to Denison for the 2020/2021 school year, joining the school’s current freestyle contingent, including Dayen Wilson, Lukas Gately, Eric Chimes, and Patrick Madden. At the 2020 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships, the Denison men were unable to defend their conference title, placing second to the Kenyon Lords (Denison: 1,765, Kenyon: 1,913). At that meet, Landis’s season-bests would have placed him 5th in the 1650 free, 8th in the 500 free, and 9th in the 200 free.
