Ryan Owens from Douglassville, PA, will travel south to Greenville, NC, and join the East Carolina Pirates next fall. The three-time high school All-American in the 100-yard and 200-yard free, was a two-time finalist at the 2013-14 AAA Pennsylvania State Championships, finishing 3rd in the 200-yard free (1:40.08) and 5th in the 100-yard free (45.28). Last February, Owens encountered a shoulder injury and was unable to participate in an end of season meet.

Owens best SCY times are:

  • 50 free: 20.72
  • 100 free: 45.20
  • 200 free: 1:39.33

“I really liked the coaches and the swim team members made me feel like part of the team on my visit and the campus was beautiful.” – Owens

Owens’s best times in all of his events would place him on the Pirates’ all-time top-ten list. Both his 100-yard and 200-yard free would place him 7th and his 50-yard free would place him 9th. He would have also made an impact at last years American Athletic Conference, when the Pirates claimed the title for the first time. His 200-yard free would have given him a 5th place finish in the A-final and both his 100-yard and 50-yard free would have made 8th place finishes, also in the A-final.
