Bronx, N.Y. – (July 29, 2022) – Fordham swimming & diving head coach Steve Potsklan announced the recruiting class for the 2022-23 season today.
In all, the Rams added 23 student-athletes for next season with 13 women and 10 men coming to Rose Hill.
Here is a breakdown of the recruiting class:
Noah Althoff – Freestyle/Backstroke/IM – Harrisville, Mich./Baylor School (Tenn.)
Althoff swam for the Baylor School, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He earned All-American status in 2020 as a part of the 200 freestyle relay.
Mya Bokerman – Diving – New Berlin, Wisc./New Berlin Eisenhower
Bokerman was a four-year varsity diver at New Berlin Eisenhower High School in Wisconsin, where she was a two-time team MVP (2020-21 & 2021-22) and team captain. She set both the six-dive (277.45 – 2021) and 11-dive (479.85 – 2020) school records and finished runner-up at the WIAA State Championship in 2021. She also dove club for the Schroeder Dive Team, where she was a 2022 USA Diving Zone D qualifier and a member of the YMCA National Team Championship in 2022.
Away from the pool, Bokerman was a member of the honor roll and high honor roll at New Berlin Eisenhower, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She was a also a member of the National and Spanish Honor Societies.
Miranda Bonitatebus – IM/Breaststroke – Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield
Bonitatebus was a varsity swimmer at Ridgefield High School in Connecticut, where she served as team captain and was team MVP. A two-time All-FCIAC performer, she was an All-State performer as a junior and set the school record in the 200 individual medley as a senior. She swam club for Ridgefield Aquatics, where Bonitatebus set multiple event records, while being a two-time All-American Classic champion and a 2022 CT SCY Senior champion.
Maia Cacchione – Diving – Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa
Cacchione was a member of both the varsity swimming & diving and track & field teams at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, New York. She helped her team capture State Championship in 2018 and 2021, while taking second place at the 2020 Section II Championship. A 2021 team captain, she was a State qualifier in 2021. Additionally, Cacchione was the Section II State champion in the pole vault in 2021, while taking second in 2022.
In the classroom, she was a member of the National and Science National Honor Societies at Shenendehowa. Cacchione was also the recipient of the President’s Academic Excellence Award and the NY Seal of Biliteracy for German.
Brandon Cortez – Breaststroke/Freestyle – New Providence, N.J./Newark Academy
Cortez was a four-year varsity swimmer at Newark Academy in Livingston, New Jersey. He helped led the team to three Prep-B Championship in 2019, 2020, and 2022, as well as the 2022 Non-Public B State Championship. A team MVP as a sophomore, he was a part of three school record relays, including the 200 and 400 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay. For club swimming, Cortez swam for Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA, where he qualified for the YMCA Championship in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.
Lilia de Oliveira Pelaez – Diving – Ile Perrot, Quebec/Beaconsfield (McKendree)
de Oliveira Pelaez is a graduate transfer from McKendree University in Illinois, where she spent the last three seasons. A two-year captain, she set the McKendree school record in the one-meter dive for six dive and was an Academic All-GLVC selection. Over the last three GLVC Championships, she scored in the top eight in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events at all three championships, most recently taking fourth in the three-meter and fifth in the one-meter at the 2021-22 Championship. Away from the pool, she was a member of the Dean’s List.
Prior to McKendree, de Oliveira dove for one season at New Mexico State as well as for the Pointe Claire Dive Club.
Therese Enriquez – Freestyle – Reseda, Calif./Harvard-Westlake
Enriquez swam varsity for Harvard-Westlake School in Studio City, California, where she served as team captain and was a multiple-time Mission League champion in both individual and relay events, as well as an Eastern Interscholastic relay champion. A CIF qualifier, she is a member of the school record 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Enriquez swam club for both Westside Aquatics and Rose Bowl Aquatics. At Westside Aquatics, she set SoCal records in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays as a youth.
Away from the pool, Enriquez is a member of the National Spanish Honor Society and the Honor Roll. An AP scholar, she was also recipient of the Young Art’s Merit Award.
Ellie Graves – Distance Freestyle – Barrington, Ill./Barrington (Boston U.)
Graves is a transfer from Boston University, where she spent the last two seasons and was a member of the Dean’s List. She was a top performer in the distance freestyle events, placing fifth in the 1650 freestyle and 13th in the 500 freestyle at the 2022 Patriot League Championship. Prior to BU, she was a two-year team captain for the swim team at Barrington High School in Illinois, where she was an All-Conference performer and a member of the National Honor Society.
Millie Haffety – Diving – Sheffield, England/Silverdale (U. of Miami)
Haffety is a graduate transfer from the University of Miami, where she was a four-time NCAA Zone B Diving qualifier, finishing in the top 18 in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events three times (2019-21). She also scored at the ACC Championship in each of her four seasons, finishing as high as fifth on the one-meter board in 2019, while taking sixth in the event in 2022. Academically, she was a member of the Dean’s List and the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Prior to Miami, she attended Silverdale School in Sheffield, England, and competed in diving for the Sheffield Diving Club. Haffety captured bronze medals in both the one-meter and three-meter springboards at the British National Championship in 2018, while earning silver in the three-meter synchronized springboard event twice (2017 and 2018).
Megan Morris – Freestyle/Butterfly/Backstroke – Frisco, Texas/Ursuline Academy (TCU)
Morris is a graduate transfer from TCU, where she was a four-year swimmer, earning 11 podium finishes (Top-8 finish) at the Big XII Championships over her career (five individual, six relay). She posted nine all-time top 10 times in TCU team history, coming in a variety of events, including the school record in the 400 individual medley event (4:17.72). She was also a part of TCU’s National Invitational Championship team in 2020. A three-time Academic All-Big XII First Team selection, Morris graduated Summa Cum Laude from TCU, receiving Dean’s List honors every semester.
Prior to TCU, she was a sprinter from Ursuline Academy and Lakeside Aquatic Club, where Morris was a three-time Texas private school champion.
Ethan Newberry – Freestyle – Yorba Linda, Calif./Yorba Linda
Newberry was a four-year varsity swimmer at Yorba Linda High School in California, where he was the 2021-22 North Hills League and Team MVP. He finished his high school career as the school record holder in the 200 and 500 freestyle events and helped his team to two North Hills League Team Championships (2018-19, 2021-22). Additionally, he was a CIF Division 2 finalist as a senior in the 500 freestyle, placing seventh overall. For club, Newberry is a member of La Mirada Armada, where he posted a Junior National Cut in the 1000 freestyle. While at the 2021, California Nevada Sectionals, he had three top-eight finishes in the 500 freestyle (6th), 1000 freestyle (6th), and 1650 freestyle (8th).
Academically, Newberry was a four-year member of the honor roll at Yorba Linda and twice received the Academic Mustang Achievement Award.
Hope Nolan – Butterfly/Breaststroke – Scottsdale, Arizona/Xavier College Prep
Nolan was a four-year member of the swim team at Xavier College Prep in Phoenix, Arizona, where she served as team captain. She was the team MVP and a First Team Premier League All-Star. For club, she is a part of Phoenix Swim Club. Away from the pool, Dolan was recipient of the Xavier School Spirit Award.
Jaehee Park – Sprint Free/Fly – Cumberland, Maine/Greely
Park was a four-year swimmer at Greely High School in Cumberland, Maine. She earned All-State honors from 2018 through 2021 as a part of the 400 medley relay. In the classroom, Park was a member of the National and Spanish National Honor Societies at Greely.
Brian Pawlowski – Distance Freestyle – Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury
Pawlowski was a four-year varsity swimmer at Glastonbury High School in Connecticut, serving as team captain as a senior. He was a three-time CCC All-Conference selection (2020-22) and recipient of the 2022 Glastonbury Hartwell Award. He also was a Connecticut Top 16 performer. In the classroom, Pawlowski was a Connecticut Scholar Athlete and a Faculty Scholar.
Marco Petit – Diving – Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep
Petit was a multi-sport athlete at Fordham Prep, competing in diving, rugby, and football. A two-time diving team MVP, he finished runner-up at the NYCHSAA Diving Championship and received the 2022 NYCHSAA Lester Schloen Award, giving for excellence in diving in the CHSAA. He dove club for Lake Isle, winning the Westchester County Championship twice and finishing runner-up twice.
Paris Raptis – Butterfly – Anthousa, Greece/Costeas Geitonas (Drexel)
Raptis is a graduate student transfer from Drexel, where he spent the last four years. He started a very successful career as the 2019 CAA Rookie of the Year after earning All-CAA honors in four events. Over his career, he medaled 14 times at the CAA Championship, which included winning the 100 butterfly event in 2021 and the 200 butterfly event in 2020. He finished his Drexel career with school records in the 100 and 200 butterfly and the 200 and 400 medley relay. Academically, Raptis earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honors, while being a four-time selection to the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll and a member of the Dean’s List.
Prior to Drexel, Raptis was a four-year member of the Costeas Geitonas High School swim team and a member of the Greece Junior National Team.
Mya Sharkey – Diving – Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan Regional (Loyola (Md.))
Sharkey is a transfer from Loyola University in Maryland, where she dove one season for the Greyhounds. She made the 2022 Patriot League Championship finals in the three-meter dive, scoring 15th overall, while at the ECAC Open Championships, she scored fourth in the three-meter dive (225.45) and sixth in the one-meter dive (208.95). Academically, she made the Dean’s List in each semester at Loyola.
Before Loyola, Sharkey dove five seasons for Bridgewater Raritan Regional High School in New Jersey, diving at the State Championship in each of her four varsity seasons. She also competed for LOB Dive Team, where she competed at regionals and AAU nationals. In the classroom, Sharkey was an AP Scholar, a member of the National Latin and National Honor Societies, and a recipient of the High Honor Roll Award.
Emma Shaughnessy – Breaststroke – Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck (Indiana)
Shaughnessy is a transfer from Indiana, spending one year with the Hoosiers. She saved her best performances for the BIG TEN Championship, posting season-best times in the 50 freestyle and the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Prior to Indiana, she was a four-year swimmer at Colts Neck High School in New Jersey, where she set the school and Shore Conference records in the 100 breaststroke, while also having the school and state records in the 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter medley relay events. Shaughnessy was a two-time Shore Conference Swimmer of the Year and All-State performer. For club, she was a part of the Greater Monmouth County YMCA.
In the classroom, Shaughnessy was a member of the National Art and Latin Honor Societies and received the Police Benevolent Association Award.
Ryan Staunch – Freestyle/Butterfly – Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot
Staunch was a four-year swimmer at Bishop Verot High School in Florida, serving as team captain. He was a seven-time State finalist in his career and was a four-time First Team All-Area selection. For club, he competed for T2 Aquatics, serving as team captain, and was a Winter Junior National qualifier.
Academically, Staunch was a USA Scholastic All-American, graduated Summa Cum Laude, and was a member of the Principal’s List.
Christian Taylor – Freestyle/Backstroke – Sydney, Australia/St. Ignatius’ College Riverview
Taylor was a multi-sport athlete at St. Ignatius’ College Riverview in Sydney, Australia, taking part in swimming, cricket, and Australian Rules football. A 2020 team captain for swimming, he received the Pierre De Coubertin Olympic Changemaker Award in 2020. He competed at the Australian National Championships from 2014-21, finishing as high as fifth in the 100-meter backstroke at the 2019 National Championship.
Theo Vandenberg – Sprint Freestyle – Porter Ranch, Calif./Granada Hills Charter
Vandenberg competed for the swimming and basketball teams at Granada Hill Charter School in California, serving as the varsity swim team captain. For club, he competed for the Porter Valley Polar Bears. In the classroom, Vandenberg was the valedictorian at Granada Hills Charter.
Madeline Wambach – Butterfly – Boston, Mass./The Rivers School (Trinity)
Wambach is a transfer from Trinity College, who had a very successful season in 2021-22. She qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship, finishing 25th in the 100 butterfly, 38th in the 200 butterfly, and 52nd in the 200 IM. At the NESCAC Championship, she was a part of school records in the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay, while individually, she set school marks in the 50 and 100 butterfly events, taking fifth and tenth place, respectively. Before Trinity, she swam for the Gator Swim Club.
Taras Zherebetskyy – Freestyle/Butterfly – Alghero, Sardegna, Italy/ITS Angelo Roth (McKendree)
Zherebetskyy is a graduate student transfer from McKendree University in Illinois. He has been a part of the team since the 2018-19 season, finishing with a strong senior campaign. He was a member of the GLVC Champion 400 freestyle relay in 2022, setting school and meet records, while individually, he placed as high as tenth, which came in the 100 freestyle event. In the classroom, Zherebetskyy was a member of the Dean’s List and was selected Academic All-GLVC.
