A former member of the Peruvian National Team, Kiara Caamano has announced that she will be staying within the state of Florida for college, committing to Florida State University to continue her athletic career.
Competing for her high school, Jupiter High School, Caamano has qualified for two events at the FHSAA 4A State Championships three of her four years of high school. During her freshman, sophomore, and senior seasons, she contested both the 50 and 100 freestyles at the meet, finishing her high school career with a pair of A-final appearances as a senior. In November of 2021, she claimed 6th in the 50 (23.49) and 2nd in the 100 (50.76).
Internationally, Caamano has represented Peru at the 2020 UANA Swimming Cup among other competitions. There, she contested the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles, finishing in the top-8 of the 50 and 100.

A sprint specialist, Caamano will be capable of challenging for relay spots immediately after joining the team this fall. Last season, she would have been among the top-8 Seminoles in both the 100 and 200 freestyles. Last season, it took 49.45/1:50.49 to earn a spot on the team’s 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
Last season, the Florida State women finished in 7th at the 2021 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships. The team was led in the sprint events by Tania Quaglieri and Rebecca Moynihan, both of whom made finals appearances in both the 50 and 100 freestyles. While Moynihan is in her final season of eligibility, Quaglieri will be a senior next year, giving her one year of overlap with Caamano.
Caamano will be a part of a strong group of incoming freshman that currently includes Jewels Carlini, Mabry Bishop, Julia Brzozowski, Sarah Evans, Julia Mansson, and Emily Trieschmann. That group includes multiple talented sprint freestylers, such as Evans, who has already been 23.10 in the 50 and 50.55 in the 100.
