Texas HS 5A Finalist Leah Givens Chooses NAIA Powerhouse SCAD

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Leah Givens of League City, TX has announced her decision to swim for the SCAD Bees beginning in the fall of 2022. Givens trains year-round with the Sharks Swim Club and she is in her final semester at Friendswood High School.

I chose SCAD because of its excellent academic programs, and its reputation of preparing students for their creative careers. I plan to major in Graphic Design. SCAD is perfect because I can get a great education and continue to grow as a swimmer with a championship-level team. It is a great mix of both of my passions.

In March of 2021, Givens competed at the Texas HS 5A State Championship. She made it back for finals swims in both of her individual races and she was a member of her school’s 200 medley and 400 free relays. The Friendswood junior finished 10th overall in the 100 free, touching second in the B-final in a time of 53.61.

Givens was an A-finalist in the 200 free. She touched 7th in both prelims and finals and ended the meet with a 1:55.34. She anchored both of her school’s relays, going a 24.46 on the medley relay and a 54.60 at the end of the 400 free relay.

She made it back in the B-final of the 200 IM her freshman year and the 200 free her sophomore year. She is a 2020 All-American and school record-holder in the 400 free relay (3:30.49). She holds an individual school record in the 200 free iun a time of 1:53.75.

Givens has also represented her high school at the StateSkills USA competition for Graphic Design. Her 4.0 GPA earned her TISCA Academic All-State recognition in 2021.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 back – 58.58
  • 200 back – 2:08.40
  • 100 free – 52.90
  • 200 free – 1:53.75
  • 200 IM – 2:08.47
  • 400 IM – 4:37.54

SCAD has won three consecutive NAIA Championships. Givens’ top times make her a potential point-scorer for the bees. At the 2020 conference champs, she would have scored a spot in the A-final of the 200 back, 200 free, 200 IM, and 400 IM and she would have made it in the B-final of the 100 back and 100 free.

Givens will be joining the SCAD Bees as a member of their class of 2026.
