Sports media personality Pat McAfee went on his ESPN talkshow, The Pat McAfee Show, yesterday to discuss his reaction to attending the U.S. Olympic Trials on Wednesday evening. McAfee, a former NFL punter for the Indianapolis Colts, was invited to attend the Trials by swimming personality Kyle Sockwell, who McAfee shouts out in the clip below for the invite.

McAfee began his segment by saying “I couldn’t recommend this event more. It was electric.” He spoke about the light show and all the effects that USA Swimming put together with the help of a local Indianapolis event company.
McAfee then recounts the crowd size, noting that Wednesday night’s finals session had 22,209 spectators in attendance, which broke the World Record for attendance at a swim meet. “It was awesome. The show was awesome. The fans were awesome. The USA Swimming people I was with were awesome.”
Then, McAfee gave his famous brand of sports commentary on the state of USA Swimming. “We got absolute dawgs swimming in our pool.” He then went on to comment on the rivalry between the US and Australia, saying that “the Australians have been getting back into this and they’ve been running their mouths.” McAfee’s response: “254 gold medals for the USA swim team and there’s more on the way.”‘
McAfee then gave Katie Ledecky her flowers, noting that she now has the 19 fastest times in history in the women’s 1500 free after her title on Wednesday night. He then references Canadian superstar Summer McIntosh, who has surpassed Ledecky in the short freestyle events, but notes Ledecky is still untouchable in the mile.
He concludes the segment by shouting out Lilly King, representing Indiana, for “getting in done again,” which is a reference to her victory in the women’s 100 breast.
Kyle Sockwell with the assist! Pat McAfee has a HUGE audience and is very popular in Indiana, and especially INDY after playing for the Colts. Might even be a little uptick in attendance tonight after that raving endorsement of his Trials experience.
Thank you Kyle Sockwell! The call between Pat and Michael Phelps was kinda funny too. Small world for the people who are famous.
