Ella DeFever Commits to DII Minnesota State – Mankato

Badger Aquatic Club’s Ella DeFever has announced her decision to swim at Minnesota State University – Mankato beginning in the fall of 2020. She shared the news by saying “It’s official!! Excited to say that I will be continuing my academic and swimming career at Minnesota State University! Thank you to Coach Nathan and Coach Sophie for this amazing opportunity. Can’t wait to be a Maverick!!”

In November, DeFever represented Madison Memorial High School at the Wisconsin Division I Girls Sectionals in Beloit, WI. She competed in the 100 and 200 free, and 200 and 400-free relays. In her first individual event, DeFever won the gold medal in the 200 free (1:54.08), holding off West High School’s Bella Granetzke by 0.31 seconds. Later, she took second place in the 100 free, racing into the wall with a time of 52.40, behind Sophie Fiske of Sun Prairie High School. DeFever anchored both the 200-free relay (23.76) and the 400-free relay (51.64).

DeFever most recently competed at the Wisconsin 13&O SCY State Championships. She picked up personal best times in the 50 free, 100 and 200 back, and the 50 fly.

• 50 back – 28.04
• 200 back – 2:06.71
• 50 free – 24.38

DeFever’s times would have placed her in the B-final in the 50 free and 100 fly and the A-final in the 100 free and back, and the 200 back at the 2020 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships. In addition, her 50 and 100 free times will be among the 4 fastest for Minnesota State – Mankato, making her a contender for a spot on the 200 and 400-free A relays. DeFever is the first of her year to commit to Minnesota State, Mankato’s class of 2024.
