HAMPTON, Va. – The East Carolina women’s swimming and diving team improved to 10-1 on the season following at sweep at the William & Mary Quad-Meet on Saturday. The Pirates earned wins over William & Mary (180-110), Old Dominion (229-61) and Central Connecticut State (225-74).
“This was a strong performance both in the pool and on the diving boards,” ECU Head Coach Matthew Jabs said. “We were missing a handful of girls due to illness, and I thought we really stepped up today to overcome that obstacle. Today was a lot of fun and I am proud of the girls.”
The trio of Emilee Hamblin (1:52.600), Heidi Bruining (1:53.37) and Sophie Benkusky (1:54.01) swept the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Kaylee Hamblin (2:16.77), Bruining (2:20.79) and Kratka (2:23.14) also took the first three positions. Carlie Clements (57.05), Laura Lopez (57.42) and Alayna Carlson (57.68) placed second, third and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.
Kaylee Hamblin (1:03.24/100-yard breaststroke), Sara Kalawska (2:07.13/200-yard butterfly), Mikayla Durkin (23.96/50-yard freestyle), Durkin (52.40/100-yard freestyle), Lopez (2:03.66/200-yard backstroke), Emilee Hambin (5:02.68/500-yard freestyle) and Bruining (2:05.69/200-yard IM) earned victories in their respective events.
ECU won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:28.04 and placed second in the 200-yard medley relay posting a time of 1:45.27.
In the diving well, Frida Zuniga Guzman took top honors in the 3-meter dive with a score of 279.60, while Oliva Templeton finished third at 244.88). Guzman also took first in the 1-meter dive tallying 30278 points while Templeton placed second with a score of 257.25.

ECU will return to action on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18 when they host Liberty for Senior Weekend. Action on Friday begins at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. Coach Jabs, his staff and student-athletes will recognize the seniors starting at 12:40 p.m. inside Minges Natatorium.

HAMPTON, Va. — Returning to action for the first time in over a month, the William & Mary swimming teams scored three wins at the Tribe Quad Meet on Saturday morning at the Hampton Aquaplex, defeating Old Dominion 143-119 on the men’s side and 212-49 on the women’s side. The Tribe women also secured a 205-90 victory over Central Connecticut State, while falling to East Carolina.
In total, W&M had 11 event winners.
The 200 medley relay team of Julie Addison, Ellie Scherer, Lindsay Juhlin, and Caroline Burgeson started the day strong with a first-place time of 1:43.58. The men’s team — composed of Logan McDonald, Brock Rempe, Alex Valliere, and Aiden Bond — also won with a time of 1:30.60.
In the distance events, Lauren Tucker put together an impressive performance in the 1000 freestyle as she finished in 10:32.10 to lead the pack. In the 200 freestyle, David Yune was victorious with a final time of 1:41.46.
Competing in the 100 backstroke, Addison finished first as she clocked in at 56.96. The men’s duo of Micah Lowe (51.64) and Thomas Duncan (51.88) finished second and third, respectively.
Other first-place finishers included Rempe (100 breaststroke) and Bond (50 and 100 freestyle). The men’s team dominated the 100 freestyle, taking the top four spots in the race.
Duncan added another win for the Tribe with his performance in the 200 backstroke at 1:52.63.
In the 100 butterfly, Juhlin timed out at 56.15 to lead the field. Sophia Heilen finished right behind her at 56.97. On the men’s side of the 100 fly, McDonald was a winner with his time of 50.18.
UP NEXT
W&M will host Davidson at the Bee McLeod Recreation Center on Saturday, Jan. 18. The meet will get underway at noon.

HAMPTON, Va. – Old Dominion University swimming began the 2025 season in a quad dual meet at the Hampton Aquaplex against William & Mary, East Carolina, and Central Connecticut State. The ODU men fell to W&M, 143-119, while the women came up short against ECU, W&M and CCSU.
ODU placed fourth in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:49.59, as Samantha Allred, Bridget Morris Larkin, Kiersten Donnelly and Bella Pachek was the squad for the Monarchs.
The team of Gustaf Jansson, August Eriksson, Jordan Davis and Zachary Redding finished second in the men’s 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.54.
Grey Bremer and Cooper Beebe went 1-2 in the men’s 1000 freestyle, with Bremer winning in a time of 9:53.59 and Beebe coming in second in 10:03.58. Bremer notched his second win of the day with a time of 4:39.37 in the 500 freestyle.
Ben Schattenberg earned a second-place spot in the men’s 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.19.
Gustaf Hansson earned ODU’s first win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.82.
In the women’s 100 breaststroke, Mary Dunworth came in fifth in a time of 1:07.65.
In the men’s 100 breaststroke, August Eriksson notched a second-place finish with a time of 53.99.
Redding earned ODU’s second win of the day, earning a time of 1:52.32 to earn a victory in the 200 butterfly. He followed that with a second-place position in the 100 free with a time of 44.86.
In the men’s 200 breaststroke, Bryce Mortimer got ODU back in the win column with a time of 2:05.65.
Lauren Masters led ODU in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.81, while Kristilynn Mosley placed fifth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.09.
Mortimer notched his second win of the day, earning a time of 1:52.29 in the 200 IM.
In the final event of the day, the Monarchs won the 400 free relay, as Schattenberg, Ryan Lincicum, Brice Bounds and Redding triumphed in a time of 3:05.73. The team of Davis, Robby Young, Bremer and Dawson Truong came in second with a time of 3:08.32.
ODU continues the 2025 campaign on Saturday, Jan. 24 at American.

The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team defeated Old Dominion University 156-139 in dual meet action on Saturday morning at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex. The Blue Devils participated in a quadruple dual, falling 205-90 to William & Mary and 225-74 to East Carolina University.
The Blue Devils, on their way to the annual southern winter training trip, will return to action next weekend for a two-day dual with Sacred Heart. The Pioneers will host on Saturday at 12:30, while the Blue Devils will host the second day, Sunday, January 19th at Suydam Natatorium at noon.
STROKES
- Katrine O’Leary went 1:00.50 in the 100 backstroke, placing eighth, while Megan Dunnigan was 1:00.96 to finish 11th
- Grace Young placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke, with a swim of 1:08.65
- Sophie Milhomens finished seventh in the 200 butterfly, swimming 2:13.89
- Milhomens placed fifth in the 200 backstroke, with a swim of 2:07.38 and Dunnigan was 10th at 2:12.04
- Young swam to a sixth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:28.98, and Veronica Okurowski touched ninth at 2:35.52
- Lauryn Cowing went 1:00.56 to lead the team in the 100 fly, finishing eighth
- Gabi Wroblewski took fourth in the 200 IM, finishing at 2:11.21 and Milhomens went 2:15.46 to place eighth
FREESTYLE
- Abbey Keane took third in the 1000, swimming 10:41.38, while Maggie Rutledge touched fifth with a swim of 10:50.93
- Gabby Spaciano was the top finisher for CCSU in the 200 freestyle, clocking a time of 1:57.80 to finish fourth overall
- O’Leary led the 50 crew with a ninth place finish, touching at 25.48, while Lauryn Cowing went 25.56, good for 11th place
- Spaciano was eighth for the Blue Devils in the 100 free, swimming 54.88
- Rutledge was the top Blue Devil in the 500 free, clocking 5:14,48, good for fourth, with Keane touching seventh in a time of 5:18.21
DIVING
- Zoe Baker captured second place in the 3-meter diving, scoring 254.60 points
- Kaitlyn Carroll tallied 216.45 points on the 3-meter good for fourth place
- Baker finished third on the 1-meter board, scoring 232.65, with Carroll fourth at 209.63
RELAYS
- Milhomens (28.17), Young (31.08), Cowing (26.50) and O’Leary (24.59) were the fifth fastest relay in the opening 200 medley, touching at 1:50.34
- The 400 freestyle relay of Spaciano (54.88), Cowing (54.70), O’Leary (54.24) and Dunnigan (54.85) captured fourth place with a time of 3:38.67
