PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women’s swimming and diving team defeated Seton Hall 172-127 in the home opener of the 2023-24 season.
Drexel began the meet with a strong start, securing first place in the 400 medley relay. The relay team of Federica Nocera, Ewa Osiniak, Megan Ehrnfeldt and Olivia Scherbin teamed up and finished the race in 3:50.48.
Federica Nocera had a trio of first-place finishes herself as she finished first in the 100 and 200 back with times of 55.77 and 2:00.91 each. Nocera also placed first in the 200 IM, clocking in at 2:08.48.
Chelsea Gravereaux joined Nocera with three first-place finishes of her own. Gravereaux owned the freestyle today as she placed first in the 100 and the 200 free with times of 51.19 and 1:51.57 each. Gravereaux also clinched the top spot in the 50 free as she crossed the finish line in 23.75.
Megan Ehrnfeldt was another Dragon who captured multiple first-place finishes. Ehrnfeldt led the pack in the 100 and 200 fly as she was able to finish with times of 57.14 and 2:05.84 respectively.
Ewa Osiniak had herself a first-place finish in the 100 breast as the graduate student put up a time of 1:06.34. She also placed second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.69.
The Dragons wrapped up the meet by finishing second in the 400 free relays as Megan Ehrnfeldt, Delaney Leonard, Olivia Scherbin and Chelsea Gravereaux came together to put up a combined time of 3:31.69.
The Dragons now turn their attention towards the West Virginia Invitational in Morgantown, W.Va. The three-day event begins on Nov. 16 and ends on Nov. 18.

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men’s swimming and diving team fell to Seton Hall 161-139 in the home opener of the 2023-24 season.
The Dragons kicked off the meet with a strong start, placing first in the 400 medley relay. The relay team of Dimi Gkelis, Kacper Karnik, Jakub Kwasny and Sebastian Smith came together for a time of 3:20.04.
Dimi Gkelis had two other first-place finishes as the freshman also placed first in the 100 and 200 back, putting up times of 50.48 and 1:52.56 in each.
Another Dragon who had multiple first place finishes was Jakub Kwasny who hit the wall first in both the 100 and 200 fly as the senior was able to clock in at 48.67 and 1:52.15 respectively.
Sebastian Smith also had himself a busy afternoon. Smith clinched first place in the 100 free as he recorded a time of 45.54. Smith also secured second in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 48.82.
Alessio Gianni put the Dragons on top in the 200 IM as he wrapped up the race with a time of 1:56.06. Gianni also made the leaderboard in the 500 free as he finished in third place, stopping the clock at 4:44.13.

PHILADELPHIA – The Seton Hall women’s swimming and diving team suffered a defeat in dual meet action at Drexel on Friday night by a score of 172-127.
Silvia Alessio (Trieste, Italy) once again showed out, winning both diving events for the fourth time in as many meets so far this season. The graduate student posted a score of 291.90 in the 3-meter for her first win of the night, followed by a victory in the 1-meter with a score of 291.45. Both events saw Laura Stavila (Oakland, Calif.) record second-place scores.
The Pirates performed strongly in both distance events on the night. In the 1000 Free, Allie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J.) claimed the top spot with a time of 10:18.48, followed by Madeleine Bachand (Raleigh, N.C.) in second in 10:27.53. Later in the meet, Waggoner and Bachand took second place and third place in the 500 Free, respectively. That duo finished behind Amanda Zajdzinski (Mesa, Ariz.), who took home the win with a time of 5:02.96.
Mia Sunseri (Wheeling, W. Va.) also captured a victory on the night, claiming the victory in the 200 Breast. The junior took home the win in a time of 2:26.10.
The Pirates would later round out the meet with a victory in the 400 Free Relay. Zajdzinski, Lea Moeller (New Lenox, Ill.), Madeline Field (Wheaton, Ill.) and Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) combined for a winning time of 3:30.23.
The Pirates turn right back around on Saturday as they play hosts to Lehigh at 12 p.m. inside Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.
PHILADELPHIA – The Seton Hall men’s swimming and diving team picked up a victory in dual meet action on Friday night, taking down Drexel by the final score of 161-139. Quinn Murtha (Cumming, Ga.) qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the 1-meter, while the 400 Free Relay team captured the Drexel pool record.
Murtha took the top spot in the 1-meter dive with a score of 306.68. Just behind Murtha was Trevor Post (Bay City,Mich.), who finished in second with a score of 289.88. The two would trade places later in the 3-meter, with Post taking the top spot with a score of 313.65 and Murtha claiming second at 304.28.
In the swimming events, Ben Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.) picked up a pair of victories on the night. The first win for the sophomore came in the 100 Breast, touching the wall with a time of 56.84. Endersby would pick up his next win later on in the 200 Breast, clocking in at 2:09.02.
Much like Murtha and Post traded places in the two diving events, Clil Halevi (Kafar Hadranim, Israel) and Sean Vizzard (Mount Laurel, N.J.) traded the top two spots in the distance events. Vizzard claimed the first victory in the 1000 Free, coming in with a time of 9:26.00, just ahead of Halevi who came in at 9:27.30. Halevi would take his win later in the 500 Free in 4:36.65, finishing ahead of Vizzard who finished with a second-place time of 4:39.14.
Kevin Cary (West Chester, Pa.) kept his strong season going by picking up two more victories on Friday night. Cary swam the fastest in the 200 Free, finishing in first with a time of 1:40.81. Cary also swam the anchor leg on the 400 Free Relay team which set the pool record in the event with a time of 3:02.94. Swimming the second leg in that race was Toma Adam (Bacau, Romania), who also picked up a win earlier in the night in the 50 Free.
