Boston College has announced the addition of Bruno Darzi to the coaching staff as an associate head coach for the 2024-2025 season. Darzi marks the first addition to the staff after head coach Dara Torres was hired just two weeks ago.
“I’m incredibly honored and excited to have Bruno join our program as associate head coach,” Torres said. “He has over 25 years experience – 15 as a head coach – and I trained with Bruno for my sixth and final Olympic Trials. There’s no way I would have accomplished what I did at 45 years old without his coaching and guidance. We both can’t wait to get the season going with this great group of Eagles’ swimmers.”
Darzi joins the program after most recently serving as the Coaching Director of the Southern Zone of USA Swimming. He also served as the general chair of the Florida Gulf Coast local swim community (LSC) through USA Swimming. He has been a board member of the Florida Gulf Coast LSC since 2014.
In addition to being a board member, he has been head coach of Coral Springs Swim Club in Coral Springs, Florida since 2010.
Darzi has worked with numerous Olympians during his career including Torres herself. Michael Lohberg served as Torres’s primary coach while Darzi also worked with Torres during her career which included five Olympic appearances. He also has coached Vlad Polyakov of Kazakhstan and Arlene Semeco of Venezuela.
Darzi graduated from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro with a bachelor’s in Physical Education in 2002.
Torres and Boston College are building a completely new staff this offseason after the school parted ways with head coach Joe Brinkman and the rest of the staff in January after hazing allegations surfaced last September.
The team will compete in the ACC, just as before this past season. The women’s team was 12th out of 12 teams while the men were 11th out of 12 teams at the 2023 ACC Championships. The ACC also will add Cal, SMU, and Stanford this season.
A literal step back in his career. Maybe just helping an old retired friend
Congratulations Bruno!
I attended one of his meets recently and was not impressed.
What a great asset to Boston College! Congrats!
She’s one of the goats. Supersuit or not, incredible that she was a sprint ace for the USA inthe 80s and in the late 2000s. Her accomplishments can’t be compared to most- she is in rarefied air
And that translates to coaching a college program, how?
I don’t think he is making that comparison.
I was able to work a USA camp with Bruno years ago. Back then and since then I have known him to a thoughtful and intellegent person and coach. Congrats Bruno!
