Highlighting the relay on the men’s side was Lithuania’s Danas Rapsys who anchoed in a 1:44.90 to propel the team from 4th to 1st. The team won gold setting a new National Record in a 7:08.04.

Most of the men’s relays led off with their fastest swimmer as many of the fastest flat-start times would have been some of the fastest flying start times. Leading the way at the first exchange was Hungary as Nandor Nemeth swam a 1:46.11 lead off leg. That marked a new best time for Nemeth whose previous best was a 1:46.19 that he swam at the 2020(1) Tokyo Olympics in prelims to finish 12th. Greek National Record holder in the 200 free Dimitrios Markos swam the 2nd fastest lead off with a 1:47.12, just off his record of a 1:46.65.

The women’s side also featured some of the fastest splits off the start. Israel’s Anastasia Gorbenko put the team out in front right from the start as she swam a 1:56.74, the 2nd fastest split of the whole night. Gorbenko also broke the Israeli national record that stood at a 1:57.87 from 2021. The relay went on to also set a new Israeli Record.

Hungary’s Nikolett Padar came flying home on the final leg of the relay, splitting a 1:55.87. The lead was just too big to be able to catch Israel. Padar has a flat start best of a 1:56.17 so her time today is around that time with the additional boost from the relay start.
