The CBDA has released its response to FINA’s appeal of the Brazilian doping panels decision to not give a suspension to the four athletes who have tested positive for furosemide, a banned diurethic that is sometimes used to mask the presence of steroids.
The statement, released by the CBDA in portugese, includes the (translated) statement that “The grounds of appeal are still unknown, given that the CBDA…takes all measures under the Code of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”
The CBDA thus far has supported steadfastly their athletes and the decision of their panel. This is an interesting decision given that the president of the highly-politicized CBDA, Coarcey Nunes, has a long history of bad-blood with the biggest name of the four to get caught: Cesar Cielo. Further, the CBDA seems to believe that their punishment of vacancy of Maria Lenk results was sufficient, though many within the circles of Brazilian swimming have expressed that their expectation (based on realism, not on hopes) is a 6-month ban upon successful appeal to the CAS.

Rio de Janeiro / RJ– The Brazilian Aquatic Sports Confederation – CBDA was made aware today of the decision of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reference to the decision of the Doping Panel of the National Entity involving athletes Cesar Cielo Filho, Henrique Barbosa, Nicholas dos Santos and Vinicius Waked.
The grounds of appeal are still unknown, given that the CBDA, once it (an accusation) is made known, takes all measures under the Code of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Finally, the CBDA trusts that the decision of its Doping Panel of the National Authority, formed by professionals with great experience in sports medicine and chaired by Dr. Eduardo Henrique de Rose, will be maintained.

they were in the SAME shape training together in Auburn.The only difference was the fact Cielo missed some training because of a back injury in April doing weights(some people claims that put a salt in relationship with Brett because he was abscent most of the time).
Cielo came to Brazil only after PanPacs.
I think DDIas’ original point about the times was that Cielo BEAT the textile record holder…not that he beat his time. Probably didn’t translate from Portugese…:-)

You forget Bousquet was in the same race when Cielo made 21.55.Bousquet?21.95.

I did not forget, but you were comparing and talking about Bousquet’s textile best, and Bousquet textile best from last year was 21.36 while cielo’s was 21.55.
Also, When they both swam in Paris june last year, Bosquet was still in full training. He was fully tapered only in Budapest in August where he swam the 21.36

i am not telling CBDA is totally at fault.I told you before, the guys should be punished at least, by negligence.But the way the federation is letting pieces of information come out, and the way all that media was organized, is A LOT suspicious.You are an outsider, don t have any idea of cielo media exposure here.The CAS is only a confirmation.Down here, he is already guity.Even if forosemide found in his urine cannot make a baby pees.

i don t know anything about falsified documents.
But the facts:
-CBDA knew it about the doping prior Paris Open.Why let the swimmers have all that exposition?
-CBDA knew it about the 2010 ban of Waked(offcourse!).Why let him with the SAME punishment than others?Do you know if a year ban was blasted, CAS still will be called by FINA?(Yes!)

And they(FINA) know all about it.Furosemide elimination is:88 percent urine, 12 percent feces.

You forget Bousquet was in the same race when Cielo made 21.55.Bousquet?21.95.
And Cielo, till panpacs was well know as a TAPER GUY, with times in season a lot slower than fully tapered. It s only me or don t you think something got very, very wrong in Cielo s preparation to him swim slower tapered than in training period?
Two weeks before SCM Worlds:
Cielo made 21.13 and 46.89
World SC champs: 20.51 and 45.74.
Pan pacs(IMHO) was a exception in the rule.

Oh, all this accusations that the president of CBDA falsified documents and/or sabotaged Cielo et al sound more like an episode from Brazilian telenovela.
If anything, I find CBDA too protective of the swimmers. They must be living in another planet when they said this:

The CBDA is very dirty, at a level we can’t even begin to comprehend in the US. Imagine Splash of Truth…times five. And it’s all true. That’s what Brazilian swimming is like.
Still seems hard that he could bribe for a false positive on a test. I think it’s more likely that Nunes is scheming in the way they’ve presented the issue in order to affect maximum damage to Cielo’s reputation. Waiting so long to announce the positive test, for example.

Last year, Cielo swam (in his textile best) 21.55
while Bosquet swam (in his textile best) 21.36
That is HUGE in 50 free.
BTW, Adrian also swam 21.55
