Carter Crosby Named Chatham University Head Coach

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – APRIL 19th, 2016 — The Chatham University Women’s/Men’s Swimming and Diving teams will begin a new chapter, as Carter Crosby officially takes over the program. Crosby, who has spent the previous six seasons as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh inherits a program with a group of talented individuals, ready to make a splash in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Crosby has spent the previous six seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh, where his primary responsibilities were in the middle distance and sprint groups, as well as serving as the recruiting coordinator for the men’s program. During his time at Pitt, Crosby also coached with Team Pittsburgh Aquatics. Crosby would spend one year as an age group coach, and five years as a senior coach.

During his time at Pitt, Crosby would help guide three Pitt relay teams to All-Big East honors and NCAA provisional times in 2012. Additionally, he would assist in the training of and escort Pitt swimmers to both the Canadian and U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Crosby would also help guide Panther swimmers to three NCAA B Cuts in the 500 Freestyle Event, including a University of Pittsburgh school record.

Crosby arrived at Pitt after spending two seasons as a Volunteer Assistant at Indiana University, where he saw the women’s team capture consecutive Big 10 Championships (2009 and 2010). While at IU, he aided the women’s and men’s swimming program in recruiting, coaching and team travel.

Crosby is a 2006 graduate of Columbia University where he was a four-year swimming letterwinner. He served as co-captain as a senior and helped lead the Lions to a 22-12 record over the course of his four seasons. Following graduation, he spent two seasons at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. as an assistant with the women’s and men’s swimming programs and was named the Interim Head Coach there in the spring of 2007.

Coach Crosby has high expectations for the Chatham Swimming & Diving programs, where he wants to continue to develop the 5th place women’s program to a PAC Championship contender, and wants to build a competitive men’s side by increasing the size of the roster. Crosby has the mentality to work toward having a great presence both at the conference and national level with both programs. Crosby feels that, ” college athletics provides the opportunity to learn and grow as a person in ways that the classroom cannot provide, and he believes in challenging young people and supporting them to help them reach their fullest potential in the classoom, in the pool, and in the community.” Carter looks forward to the challenges ahead, and would like to thank Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students Zauyah Waite, Athletic Director Leonard Trevino, and members of the Chatham University community for this wonderful opportunity. Crosby is eager to be a part of the exciting vision for the future of Chatham University and Chatham Athletics.

Crosby currently lives in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh with his wife Emily, who is a PhD Candidate and visiting Faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh.
