LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s swim & dive team outlasted Lehigh for a 162-138 win at Kinney Natatorium Saturday in what was the team’s final home meet of the season. The Mountain Hawks stayed on Bucknell’s heels throughout the meet, but once the Bison took the lead four races in they never surrendered it. The Bison won five of 16 events outright, and the two teams tied for wins in two more.
Kayla Lichtner made the most of her Senior Day, finishing first in the 100 freestyle (52.94) and tying Lehigh’s Caitlin Deitch for first in the 50 free (24.01). She also swam the final leg of Bucknell’s 200 medley relay team that tied for the win in the first race of the day. She, along with fellow senior Esme Hunter, Hanna Bingley and Samantha Benzija clocked in at 1:46.20 to split the points with the Mountain Hawks.
Hunter also helped the Bison regain the advantage in team points with her win in the 100 backstroke. She posted a 57.35, and her teammates grabbed third, fourth and fifth-place points to put the Bison ahead 40.5-29.5 in the meet. Hunter later earned a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke (2:05.71).
Ava Stallmeyer won the 200 breaststroke in what was the only event that either team claimed the top two spots. Stallmeyer touched the wall first with a 2:23.76 and teammate Hanna Bingley came in just behind her with 2:24.99. Lehigh’s Caitlin Hoffmann followed in third. Bingley also registered a 1:06.24 in the 100 breaststroke for a win.
Rounding out Bucknell’s first-place finishers was Meghan Catherwood in the 3-meter dive with a 265.95. She was also Bucknell’s highest finisher in the 1-meter, taking second with a 244.80.
The Bison placed second in 10 events overall, including two runner-up finishes for Rylie Giles. She went second in the 200 freestyle (1:52.69) and in the 500 free (5:12.33). Bucknell’s 400 freestyle relay team of Skye Sunderhauf, Virginia Hastings, Giles and Jennifer Bolden placed second with a 3:39.19, and its all-senior relay team of Lichtner, Caroline McGann, Stephanie Walsh and Hunter followed in third (3:41.44).
Bucknell heads to Annapolis, Md. next weekend to take part in the Navy Invite. It’s the final competition before the Patriot League Championships begin Feb. 21. Next Saturday’s invite is scheduled to begin at noon.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s swimming & diving team posted a dominant 239-57 win over Lehigh in its final home meet of the season on Saturday. The Bison placed first place in 15 of 16 events, took the two top spots in nine events, and finished 1-2-3 in six. Bucknell (6-3, 5-3 PL) saw a big day out of its senior class, which was recognized prior to the meet, as the group combined to win four individual events and played major roles on the team’s two winning relays.
Senior John Gehrig was one of two Bison to capture two wins at the meet. Gehrig placed first in both the 200 butterfly (1:50.58) and the 100 butterfly (49.42). Sophomore Alex Crossing also grabbed first in two races, winning the 1000 freestyle (9:40.04) and the 500 freestyle (4:36.50).
Gehrig was joined by two other seniors, Chris Fabian and Noah Basista, along with first-year Drew Greene in a 200 medley relay win that earned the Bison their first points of the day. The group finished in 1:31.83 ahead of the Mountain Hawks’ second-place 1:32.68.
Fabian and Basista picked up Senior Day wins of their own as well. Basista touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke with a 57.49, just beating out Lehigh’s Jack Devilbiss (57.58). Fabian won the 100 freestyle with a 46.43. The 100 freestyle was one of Bucknell’s 1-2-3 finishes, as Fabian was trailed by Justin DiSanto (46.45) and Greene (47.22) to add 16 points towards the Bison effort. Bucknell went 1-2-3 in both the 50 freestyle and the 200 freestyle as well. DiSanto took first in the 50 with a 20.88, and Chris Kopac went first in the 200 with a 1:40.88).
Braden Beagle captured a win in the 200 backstroke with a 1:51.34, Will Hedges won the 200 breaststroke with a 2:07.56, and Andy Dorsel won the 200 IM with a 1:53.12.
On the boards, Jack Krug won the 1-meter with a score of 268.28, and Jackson Vinarub took the 3-meter with a 280.88.
Rounding out the Bison senior performances was Kevin Crane, who took third in both the 200 IM (1:59.56) and the 200 breaststroke (2:11.23).
Bucknell wrapped up the day with the 400 freestyle relay, as Gehrig, DiSanto, Kopac and Fabian finished in the top spot with a 4:04.51.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s swimming and diving team had some strong performances against Bucknell, but it would ultimately not be enough as the Mountain Hawks lost 162-138 Saturday afternoon in Lewisburg in the dual meet finale.
“Caitlin Deitch, Mairin Ludwig and Sarah Hardy and Willa Werwaiss were very strong today,” said head coach Rob Herb. “The women showed that they can compete with one of the best teams in the league and that they will be ready for Patriots.”
The Mountain Hawks captured 10 first-place finishes on Saturday. Sarah Hardy, Caitlin Deitch, Mairin Ludwig and Willa Werwaiss all recorded multiple victories.
Deitch, Hardy and Werwaiss were all on the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:46.20) alongside Danielle Prekop.
Werwaiss also helped lead the 400-yard freestyle relay to a first-place finish (3:34.37), as did Noel Fresa and Juliana Guida.
Werwaiss also won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.90. She did not stop there, scoring four more points for Lehigh after taking second in the 100-yard backstroke (57.60).
Deitch had two individual victories as well. The sophomore tied for first in the 50-yard freestyle with Kayla Lichtner (24.01). She also won the 100-yard butterfly (56.66).
Ludwig took first in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:34.53) and 500-yard freestyle (5:08.06). The sophomore also scored two points with a fourth-place mark in the 200-yard IM (2:11.92) that teammate Sarah Hardy grabbed first in with a time of 2:06.33. Hardy also won the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.99).
Sarah Gill continued to dominate the one-meter dive, winning with 244.80 points. First-year Kate Whitaker placed second in the three-meter dive with 255.75 points. Gill was right behind Whitaker as she came in third with 241.20 points.
Lehigh closes out the regular season in Annapolis, Md., on Saturday at the Navy Invitational.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s swimming and diving could not pull off the victory in the dual meet finale, falling 239-57 to Bucknell Saturday afternoon at the Kinney Natatorium.
Ben Kisker had the lone win for the Mountain Hawks as he took first in the 100-yard backstroke (50.76). Kisker also took second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.20) and was on the 200-yard medley relay team that came in second (1:32.68). Jack Devilbiss, Aaron Williams and Alex Patti also were all on the 200-yard medley relay team.
Miles Cox scored five points for Lehigh with a second-place mark in the 200-yard IM (1:57.10) and a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (52.73).
Connor Goodyear also came home with five points for the Mountain Hawks, placing third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.93) and fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.79).
First-year Owen Higinbotham tallied three points after coming in third in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:00.05). Alex Figueroa scored a point for Lehigh in the 100-yard freestyle after taking fifth with a time of 10:13.22.
The Mountain Hawks will turn the page when they close out the regular season at the Navy Invitational on Saturday.
