On the first night of the 2018 Speedo Sectional meet in Ithaca, 17 year old Chelsea Piers teammates Eliza Boeckman and Alexandra Truwit went 1-2 in the women’s 1000 free, 15 year old James Plage of Aquabears won the men’s 1650 free.

Boeckman led the race the whole way through, holding a 2 second lead over Truwit for a large portion of the race, then opening up to a 4 second lead towards the end, finishing in 9:54.23 to Truwit’s 9:58.87. Boeckman was incredibly consistent in her splits, with her 2nd-19th 50s staying within .87 seconds of each other. Her first 500 came in at 4:53.52, and her 2nd 500 was a 5:00.71.

James Plage led the field in the men’s 1650, holding the lead at the beginning and end of the race, finishing 1.87 seconds ahead of runner-up Kai Wisner, 15:30.65 to 15:32.52. Plage led over Wisner through the 600, where Wisner then took the lead and expanding it to almost a full second, then Plage re-took the lead fairly dramatically in the final 300 of the race. That time marked a 7 second drop for Plage, and a 9 second add for Wisner.
