The 2023 Italian Championships wrapped up from Riccione with some swimmers qualifying for this summer’s World Championships while others fell painstakingly short.
On the positive side of Fukuoka qualification was Olympic medalist Nicolo Martinenghi, topping the podium in the men’s 50m breaststroke tonight.
23-year-old Martinenghi touched the wall in a time of 26.85, narrowly dipping under the time standard of 26.85 needed for the World Championships. Behind him was World Junior Record holder Simone Cerasuolo who fell just short in 26.96 while the men’s 100m breast victor here, Federico Poggio rounded out the top 3 in 27.19.
Martinenghi now ranks 5th in the world on the season.
