Bayley Frierson, of Chattahoochee Gold Swim Team, from Cumming, Georgia, has given her verbal commitment to swim for Fordham University for the 2016-2017 season. She told SwimSwam, “I am so excited to announce my commitment to swim at Fordham University! Fordham offers wonderful academic opportunities, great team dynamics, and an excellent coaching staff – it’s my dream school! Go Rams!”
Frierson announced her commitment via Instagram:
In addition to competing for Chattahoochee Gold, which recently had swimmer Jack Dalmolin commit to Arizona State, Frierson also swims for South Forsyth High School. Notably, she comes from the same summer league team as current Georgia Bulldogs Katherine Aikins and Ashley Mallon, and future Auburn Tiger Jane Johnson.
At the 2016 GHSA 6A state swim meet, Frierson finished 7th in the 200 free (1:53.60) and 3rd in the 500 free (4:54.75). She will look to improve during her senior year, but faces stiff competition from fellow seniors Emma Layton and Emma Cole, who are committed to UNC Chapel Hill.
Frierson swims a variety of distance events, and has junior national cuts in the 200 fly (short and long course) and the 400 IM (long course only). Her best times are:
Event | Time (SCY) | Time (LCM) |
200 Free | 1:51.81 | 2:08.37 |
500 Free | 4:54.07 | 4:25.40 |
200 Fly | 2:02.70 | 2:18.59 |
400 IM | 4:25.00 | 5:01.35 |
Based on Fordham’s 2016-2017 roster, Frierson will be the lone swimmer from the Southeast. However, she will have no trouble making an immediate impact on the team. Her times make her a team-changing recruit for the Fordham Rams when she joins in 2017, even if she plateaus over the next two seasons. Frierson’s current best times would have ranked her in the top three of Fordham’s fastest performers from last season in five different events: 2nd in the 200 free, 1st in the 500 free (by more than 4 seconds), 1st in the 1000 free (by almost 18 seconds), 2nd in the 200 fly and 3rd in the 400 IM.
