Arkansas Receives Verbal Commitment from Freestyler Lexi Ljunggren

Lexi Ljunggren, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from East Grand Forks, Minnesota, has verbally committed to swim for the University of Arkansas next fall.

“Excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for the University of Arkansas next year!  The team made me feel so welcome and it’s a great place to continue my academics.  Can’t wait to be a razorback!  Go Hogs!”

Ljunggren is a four-time North Dakota state champion, having won the 200/500 free double at the NDHSAA Boys/Girls State Meet, representing Grand Forks Central High School, in both her freshman and sophomore seasons. (Grand Forks is on the Minnesota/North Dakota border, separated by the Red River.)

Ljunggren swims year-round for Red River Valley. She had a stellar junior year, improving her SCY and LCM times across the board. At the 2017 Iowa City Sectionals in March, she placed 3rd in the 1000 free (10:01.72, PBx21), 4th in the 200 free (1:49.88), and 4th in the 500 free (4:52.87). Later that month she went lifetime bests in the 100 free, 50/100 back, and 400 IM at North Dakota Short Course Championships. This summer saw her pick up new times in the 100/800 free, 50/100/200 back, 50/100 breast, and 50 fly. She was a top-16 finisher in the 400 free and 800 free, and a D-finalist in the 200 free, at Minneapolis Sectionals.

Top SCY times:

  • 1650 free – 17:05.51
  • 1000 free – 10:01.72
  • 500 free – 4:52.33
  • 200 free –1:49.85
  • 200 IM – 2:07.56
  • 400 IM – 4:30.45

Ljunggren will join the Razorbacks with fellow class of 2022 verbal commits Erin McGuirt, Molly Moore, Rachel Rodriguez, and Svea Torres.
