A native of Golden, Colorado, Anna Vermeulen has announced that she will be joining the University of San Diego swim team in the fall of 2022. Vermeulen swims with the Jeffco Hurricanes, as well as for Golden High School. Outside of the pool, she will serve as the student body president for her high school during the 2021-22 school year.

Vermeulen was a top-8 finisher in both her events at the 2021 CHSAA 4A State Championships, a meet that was held as only timed finals. Her top finish came in the 500 free where, after altitude adjustment, she touched in a time of 5:00.45. She finished second in that race to Mary Codevilla, who is committed to the University of Notre Dame’s class of 2022.
Through her first three years of college, Vermeulen has been an A-finalist five times at the Colorado High School state championships. She also has five Futures qualifying times, having achieved the meet standard in the 100 and 200 back, 400 IM, 200 fly, and 500 free.

The San Diego women are coming off of a season that saw them finish seventh out of seven teams at the 2021 MPSF Championships. Vermeulen will be a huge pick-up for the Torero’s as her best time in the 400 IM would have earned her the bronze medal in the event. Last season San Diego didn’t have a single medalist at the meet.
In addition to the 400 IM, Vermeulen would have finished in the A-final of the 500 free and 200 IM.
