WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary swimming won 25 of 28 events in sweeping Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon at the Bee McLeod Rec Center.
The Tribe women’s team (4-2) won every event, while going 1-2-3 in half of the 14 events to down the Blue Jays, 203.5-58.5. The men’s program (2-4) won 11 of 14 events, including taking the top two spots in five events, to top Johns Hopkins, 169-93. The Blue Jays entered the day ranked No. 10 on the women’s side in DIII, while the men were 14th.
Sophomore Aiden Bond led the way as a quadruple winner (100 and 200 freestyles, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay). On the women’s side, junior Caroline Burgeson (100 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 free relay) and sophomores Sarah Dunham (50 freestyle, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay) and Flynn Truskett (200 freestyle, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay) were each triple winners.
Junior Alex Valliere (50 free, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay) and sophomore David Yune (100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 200 free relay) were both triple winners as well. The list of double winners for the Green and Gold on Saturday included senior Ellie Scherer (200 IM, 200 medley relay), juniors Lauren Klinefelter (100 butterfly, 200 medley relay), Logan McDonald (200 free relay, 200 medley relay) and Brock Rempe (100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay), and sophomore Lauren Tucker (500 and 1000 freestyles).
Individually, sophomores Julie Addison (200 backstroke), Clara Bodnar (200 butterfly) as well as juniors Sophia Heilen (200 breaststroke) and Lindsay Juhlin (100 breaststroke) each won events for the women’s team. Sophomore Zoe Arakelian was part of the Tribe’s winning 200 freestyle relay.
For the men’s team, sophomores Thor Dyke (200 butterfly) and Zach LeMay (500 freestyle) and freshman Jackson Mueller (1000 freestyle) each notched individual victories.
The Tribe posted a trio of times on the day that rank among the top five in the CAA this season. Bond’s winning 200 freestyle time of 1:40.72 is the fifth-fastest in the CAA to date. The women’s 200 free relay of Dunham, Burgeson, Truskett, and Arakelian won the event in a time of 1:35.31, which is the second-best in the CAA. The quartet of McDonald, Bond, Yune, and Valliere not only won the 200 free relay for the men, but posted the top time in the CAA this season at 1:22.22.

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – The Johns Hopkins women’s swim team grabbed seven top three finishes, including a first-place swim, against host William & Mary Saturday afternoon. The Tribe earned a 203.5-58.5 win over the Blue Jays.
Hopkins opened the day with a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Freshman Jaya Veerapaneni, senior Michelle Liu, freshman Kennedy Lee and sophomore Elizabeth Cohen swam a 1:46.82. Sophomore Ayden Min then led the Blue Jays with a fourth-place finish in the 1000 Free with a career-best time of 10:57.57. Freshman Sarah Fox finished in a season-best 1:59.78 to take fifth place in the 200 Free.
Veerapaneni then grabbed a third-place finish in the 100 Back with a season-best swim of 57.75. Lee followed in fourth place with a time of 58.68. Junior Katherine Chelus led JHU with a fifth-place finish in the 100 Breast as she clocked in at 1:08.41. Junior Rachel Davis was the top Blue Jay in the 200 Fly as she finished in 2:14.14 for fifth place.
Cohen then finished in a tie for first in the 50 Free as she touched in 24.42. Liu followed closely in third place with a swim of 24.56. Cohen followed that with a third-place finish in the 100 Free (53.08). Veerapaneni grabbed second place in the 200 Back in 2:06.90, while Fox finished in fourth place (2:08.69). Both times were season-bests for the Veerapaneni and Fox. Davis led JHU in the 200 Breast with a fourth-place finish and a swim of 2:30.06.
Sophomore Julia Tuinman finished in fifth place in the 500 Free with a swim of 5:23.69. Lee then led the Blue Jays in the 100 Fly with a third-place finish and a time of 59.73. Sophomore Kate Petitt finished in a close fourth with a time of 59.91. Graduate student Nyah Stahl placed fourth in the 200 IM as she touched in 2:14.02, just edging Davis by six-hundredths of a second.
The Blue Jays closed out the day with second and fourth-place finishes in the 200 Free Relay. The team of Veerapaneni, Cohen, sophomore Kimberly Lan and Liu finished in 1:36.35 for second. Lee, Tuinman, freshman Anna Miler and junior Alia Basler took fourth place in 1:40.29.
Hopkins returns to the pool on Saturday, November 9 as the Blue Jays travel to Washington, DC to take on George Washington. The meet is scheduled for an 11:00 am start at McCarthy Pool.
WILLIAMSBURG, VA – The Johns Hopkins men’s swim team earned three first-place finishes and a total of 17 top three swims in a tough 169-93 loss to host William & Mary Saturday afternoon. Senior Eric Ji, junior Bryce Lloyd and freshman Larkin Helman each earned wins for the Blue Jays.
Hopkins kicked off the meet with third and fourth place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay. Lloyd, freshman Jonathan Wang and juniors Avery Clapp and Christian Mayr swam a 1:34.09 to finish just 0.14 seconds out of second. Freshman Aden Li, senior Joe Castagno and sophomores Rad Couture and Adam Sandid finished in fourth with a time of 1:34.76.
Freshman Jack Cornish then took second place in the 1000 Free as he clocked in a 9:52.68, a season best. Helman followed with a second-place finish in the 200 Free with a season-best swim of 1:42.94. Ji took third place in 1:44.12. Li and Lloyd then went two-three in the 100 Back as Li finished in 50.57 and Lloyd touched in 51.37.
Castagno finished in third place in the 100 Breast with a time of 59.30 and graduate student Julian Maycock took fourth in 1:00.66. Couture swam to a third-place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:57.03. Wang followed with a second-place swim in the 50 Free as he clocked in at 21.29, just eight-hundredths of a second out of first. Mayr led the Blue Jays with a fourth-place finish in the 100 Free in 48.27.
Lloyd then earned the first of the Blue Jays’ wins as he swam a 1:52.15 to win the 200 Back by nearly 2.5 seconds. Ji followed with a win in the 200 Breast as he touched in 2:06.22. Castagno finished in second place with a time of 2:09.72. Freshman Josiah March swam a season-best 4:46.80 to finish in third place in the 500 Free. Li then finished in second place in the 100 Fly with a season-best swim of 51.08.
Helman made it three wins for Hopkins as he beat the field in the 200 IM. He clocked in with a time of 1:52.78 to win by more than 2.3 seconds. Ji finished in third place with a swim of 1:55.50. JHU finished the day with a second and fourth place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Wang, Clapp, Sandid and Mayr combined for a swim of 1:25.02 to take second by 0.18 seconds. Senior Jonik Surprenant, March, Helman and Ji finished in 1:30.04 for fourth place.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, November 9 at Georgetown. The meet is scheduled for an 11:00 am start at McCarthy Pool.
