Update: Phelps says he has a small stress fracture from “too much walking,” joking that golf truly is a dangerous sport. And he also says that he has no plans to get back into competition, but dodged when asked if the door was totally closed.
The Michael Phelps show has arrived in Barcelona (it’s going to be a few years before he’s not the biggest draw in swimming), but calm yourselves swim fans: it doesn’t look like we’re going to have any surprise relay appearances for the Greatest of all time.
In the photo above, Tweeted by the official FINA Twitter (@fina1908) account, Phelps appears to have some sort of a walking boot on his right foot (spotted by the eagle-eyed @swimnerds). We have no idea what happened to his foot, and we may not find out what happened to his foot, but the important part is that he’s toughing it out and is in Barcelona to continue his long-stated goal of growing the sport.
We at SwimSwam, as I’m sure most of our readers can agree, appreciate his presence at the meet and his continued sport of swimming, even while not pushing too hard and allowing the next generation to take most of the attention.
His foot is probably fine, he’s just wearing it so noobs don’t start rumours that he’s going to swim :p
Probably hurt it while partying. PARTY FOUL, DUDE!
He could outswim most of swimmers in Barcelona even with that boot and Ray Ban aviators.
