The York YMCA played host to eighteen local YMCA club teams at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pennsylvania. The meet was highlighted by US Junior National Team member Daniel Diehl and Harvard commit Anya Mostek.

Diehl dominated his events, cruising to a win in all six of his races. A member of the class of 2024, Diehl grabbed first in the 100, 200, and 500 freestyles, 100 and 200 backstroke, and 100 fly. While he was well off of his lifetime bests in the 100 and 200 freestyles, his swim in the 500 free marked a new lifetime best. Entering the meet, Diehl had never dipped below 4:46 in the event. In York, he blew that time away, racing to a 4:27.62 that put him 13-seconds ahead of the field. He also added a second-best time in the 100 fly, taking half a second off of his previous best with his time of 48.29.

Mostek’s meet was just as successful as the Phoenixville Branch YMCA senior swept her events across the meet. Like Diehl, she also swam to a pair of lifetime bests, swimming new personal records in the 100 back and 200 breast. In the back, she shaved a few tenths off of her previous best to touch in 53.52. Her swim in the 200 breast was even more impressive, with her time of 2:17.03 being over two seconds faster than her previous best.

The Western Branch YMCA’s Alyssa Napier had a strong showing in the girl’s 13-14 age group, picking up numerous wins throughout the weekend. She also achieved the short course yards qualifying standards for the YMCA National Championships in multiple events. She added new qualifying standards in both the 100 back and 200 fly. She also dipped below 24.0 in the 50 free for the first time, touching in 23.98. That time now makes her among the top-50 performers in her age group this season.

Other Notable Performances

  • Keira Carmella dropped over 12-seconds in the 500 free, finishing first in the 11-12 age group in a time of 5:30.47.
  • Taking over a second off of his previous best, Jomar Hidalgo won the 11-12 boy’s 100 fly in a time of 56.43.
  • University of Florida commit Daniel Gordon narrowly missed his lifetime best in the 50 free, finishing first in 20.48.
