Arkansas Defeats Drury to Open Neil Harper Era

Match Stats

In their first official meet under head coach Neil Harper, the Arkansas Razorbacks defeated Division II powerhouse Drury 128-77 at home on Saturday. The win moves Arkansas to 18-3 in the all-time series.

Chelsea Tatlow led the way for the Razorbacks with a pair of individual wins – the first coming in the 200 free in 1:51.23, and the second coming in the 100 back in 55.63. In the latter event, she out-rade Druryh’s Katya Rudenko (55.82), a Kazakhstani Olympian.

For Tatlow, that 200 free time was already within 8-tenths of a second of her season-best from last year, and a whopping 5 seconds better than her best October swim last season. Her 100 backstroke was also almost 3 seconds faster than her 2015-2016 season best.

She focused primarily on the 200 back, 200 fly, and 200 IM last season, and whether it be a shift in focus, or a product of change in training, the results are in either case positive for the new staff.

While the depth of the DI team from Arkansas was too much in the fnial scoring, Drury did pick up a few wins in the meet. That includes back-to-back-to-back-to-back victories early in the meet from Wen Xu and Bailee Nunn:

  • 50 free from Wen Xu (23.44)
  • 200 IM from Bailee Nunn (2:01.84)
  • 100 fly from Bailee Nunn (54.19)
  • 100 free from Wen Xu (51.65)

Nunn would later add a 3rd victory to her day in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.37).
