2x Florida High School Runner-up Trevor McGovern Commits to Florida for 2020-21

Trevor McGovern of Gainesville, Florida has signed an NLI with the home team, the University of Florida Gators. He will join Brendan Peacock, Caleb Kravitz, Jace Crawford, and Tyson Upton in the class of 2024. McGovern swam high school for PK Yonge Developmental Research School and does his club swimming with Makos Aquatics Club of Gainesville. He will just miss overlapping in the NCAA with his sister who is a senior captain of the rowing team at UConn.

McGovern is a back/free specialist with a Winter U.S. Open cut in the 100 back, a Summer Juniors standard in the 200 back, and Winter Juniors standards in the 50/100/200 free. He was runner-up in the 100 back as both a junior and a senior (49.68) at the Florida High School Class 1A state meet. This year he also finished 8th in the 200 free (1:41.50) and split 19.93 on the state-champion 200 free relay, whose 1:23.28 was the fastest time in the state for the year.

This summer, McGovern competed at Speedo Junior Nationals in the 50/100 free and 100/200 back and earned PBs in the 50 free (24.33) and 200 back (2:06.91). He also swam at Gainesville Sectionals, where he improved his lifetime bests in the 100 free (52.55), 50 back (27.52), 100 back (58.10), and 100 fly (58.69).

The 6’6” McGovern is looking to be a contributor on Florida’s relays, 50/100/200 free, and backstroke events at Florida.
