Event Lineup
- 100 fly
- 400 IM
- 200 free
- 100 breast
- 100 back
Kicking off the morning is the 100 fly where Gretchen Walsh enters as the top seed and NCAA record holder. Walsh won the event last year in a 47.42 but has already been faster this season after posting a 47.35 at midseason. Walsh is the top seed by over a second and will look for her second individual win after winning the 50 free last night.
Torri Huske of Stanford is also on the hunt for her 2nd individual title after swimming to a win in the 200 IM last night. Huske is the #2 seed behind Walsh after posting a 48.52 at ACCs last month. Emma Sticklen of Texas is the only other swimmer to have been sub-50 this season with a 49.40.
Virginia freshman Katie Grimes enters as the top seed in the 400 IM and is one of three swimmers who has been sub-4:00 this season as she enters with a 3:59.02. Grimes has been as fast as 3:57.02 back in 2022 during her time with Sandpipers of Nevada. Grimes will look to keep the title with the Cavaliers as Alex Walsh has opted for the 100 breast rather than defend her title in the 400 IM.
Florida’s Emma Weyant was 2nd last year in the 400 IM and will look to return to the ‘A’ final once again as she is the #2 seed. Weyant swam a 3:59.24 at SECs. Caroline Bricker of Stanford swam to a relay win on night 1 in the 800 free relay and is the #3 seed here with a 3:59.88.
Anna Peplowski swam to a 3rd place finish in the 500 free last night and looks to continue her momentum here as the top seed in the 200 free as she enters with a 1:40.69. Fellow Big Ten swimmer Stephanie Balduccini is the #2 seed with a 1:41.16. The sophomore from Michigan split a 1:41.29 lead off split on the tema’s 800 free relay on night 1.
Alex Walsh enters the 100 breast as the top seed after posting a 56.85 at the Eddie Reese Showdown in January. Walsh has never swam the event at NCAAs before but will look to add to her individual titles during her career. Tennessee’s Mona McSharry is the #2 seed and is in search of a title after swimming a 56.64 for 2nd last year.
The 100 back concludes the session as Bella Sims is the top seed with a 48.97 that she swam at SECs. Sims changed her event lineup from a year ago as she won the 200 free as a freshman on day 3. Virginia’s Claire Curzan has been as fast as 49.35 this season and is the #2 seed while Cal’s Mary-Ambre Moluh (49.68) is the only other sub-50 seed.
Why don’t people on the west coast simply do things earlier?
Right? 6PM Pacific time is so late to start something.
we do. it’s called sleeping.
It’s the opposite. East Coasters need to do things later. Hours later. I lived in the West for nearly 30 years. It was beyond insulting for Monday Night Football to start during daylight. I was closing curtains and turning off lights.
predicting that Curzan joins the 48 club today, Bacon joins the 49 club, Bella bounces back.
w/ Bacon dropping over a second in her 2IM from last year, its shaping up for a fantastic Curzan v. Bacon 2BK showdown tomorrow.
Feels like 400IM is anyones race, but would be cool to see Bricker pull it off. This meet is going to UVA so any big swims make it more exciting, and Stanford is on fire!
Yeah I have Grimes on my pick em’s but I am leaning more towards Bricker or even Lucy Bell coming through with the victory
I kind of feel like Bricker will do it
im so curious what brickers line up at trials will be — id love to see her in the 200 br and 200 fr but theyre back to back
…I really don’t think anyone is “on the hunt” for a title in 100 fly besides GW
I can think of 1 person
Sadam hussein
Well ok but I still don’t see Walsh getting beaten even if its a close race.
I didn’t see her getting beat in the Olympic final either
Last year was different and it was her first Olympics and we saw yesterday she even went faster on the relay, like it would be quite a shocked if she lost it based on her form.
She schooled Mark Spitz
Hoping Sims can bounce back today
