Night three looks to be an exciting one after one NCAA record was already set this morning in prelims.

Gretchen Walsh set that NCAA record at a 47.21, breaking her own record of a 47.35 that she swam at midseason in November. She swam a record last year in finals with a 47.42 and is on the hunt once again. She enters as a big favorite as the top seed by over two seconds.

Emma Sticklen of Texas swam to a 49.76 in prelims and was the only other swimmer under 50 seconds. Sticklen swam a best time yesterday in prelims of the 200 IM with a 1:52.11 before finishing 7th in finals. Sticklen was 2nd behind Walsh in the event a year ago. Stanford’s Torri Huske became the 3rd swimmer under 1:50 yesterday in the 200 IM en route to her title and is the #3 seed in the 100 fly with a 50.19.

Florida went 1-2 this morning in the 400 IM as Emma Weyant enters as the top seed with a 4:01.35 and Mabel Zavaros swam a 4:01.68. Weyant was 2nd last year behind Alex Walsh who opted for the 100 breast instead this year. Weyant is in search of her first individual NCAA title.

The sophomore from Michigan Stephanie Balduccini swam to the top time of prelims in the 200 free with a 1:41.21, just off her lifetime best of a 1:41.16. She was under her best time pace through the 150 mark and may have more in the tank tonight. Fellow Big Ten swimmer Anna Peplowski of Indiana swam to the #2 seed tonight with a 1:42.48 and has been as fast as 1:40.69 this season. Peplowski was 3rd last night in the 500 free.

Alex Walsh entered the meet as the top seed in the 100 breast and will take that title heading into tonight as well after posting a 57.54 this morning. Walsh swam a 56.85 back in January at the Eddie Reese Showdown. Tennessee’s Mona McSharry has been an ‘A’ finalist in the event five times now and is in search of her first title after swimming a 57.56 in prelims. Her best time is a 56.64.

Virginia’s Claire Curzan was the #2 seed coming into the meet but swam the top time in prelims with a 49.32 100 back. She swam to 2nd last night in the 50 free and has already been on two winning relays for the Cavaliers.

Florida sophomore Bella Sims switched her event lineup from a year ago when she won the 200 free and opted for the 100 back instead. She swam a 48.97 at SECs and is the #2 seed tonight after a 49.36 this morning. Celia Pulido of Southern Illinois swam the #3 time this morning with a 49.84, the fastest mid-major time ever.

The 400 medley relay features Virginia as favorites as they are the top seed by over five seconds with a 3:19.58. As seen earlier in the session, the team is home to the top seeds tonight in the 100 fly (Gretchen Walsh) and 100 breast (Alex Walsh) as well as the #2 seed in the 100 back with Claire Curzan. Florida enters as the #2 seed with a 3:24.78 while Tennessee is the 3-seed with a 3:25.18.
