This camp is open to any and all boys and girls ages 8-17 as of Fall of 2019. Miami University Swim Camp provides great days of technique work and quality training at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. The facility, featuring an eight-lane 50-meter pool and a separate 25-meter diving well, will allow campers to gain experience with long-course training. Each day campers will spend up to four hours of time in the water and enjoy educational sessions and quality dryland work. Water and dryland sessions will mix technical focus and developmentally appropriate training. Instructional sessions will mix group video review and technical presentations.

The week will have an Individual Medley focus. Practices and instructional sessions will cover all four competitive strokes with a heavy emphasis on being fast under water. Head Coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron will lead an instructional session focusing on IM transition turns. Each camper can expect to leave with an introduction to the crossover and bucket turn.

Understanding that all athletes learn differently, Miami staff will not only provide on deck coaching corrections. Each camper can expect video review of all four competitive strokes, along with dolphin kicking. This review will be recorded on an amazon fire tablet. At the end of the camp week each camper will take home his or her new tablet, containing the video stroke analysis.

Day campers can expect to start the day at 7:30am for check in. They will have the option to leave after dinner each night at 6:30pm, for an additional $30 a week day. Lunch will be provided to all campers, at on campus dining facilities, for no additional charge. Overnight campers will have breakfast provided as well. After dinner concludes, overnight campers will participate in organized activities before spending the night in Miami University dorms.

Along with the swimming experience, campers will enjoy daily life on Miami’s historic campus. Living in the dorms, eating at dining halls and touring the campus, guided by current students, will foster a better understanding of the college experience here in Oxford.
