Interesting that the number is only 1100. Last year, according to Mike Unger of USA Swimming, he told me that there were almost 3500 qualified for the junior meet.

With the “legends” meet, sectionals, juniors, nationals, and SR zones…seems like the smorgasbord of championship meets keeps growing. The frustrating part is seeing how NONE of them are connected. I realize that the SR Zones has a very different look in other parts of the country – but in the western zone, we have to use 2 pools because there are over 1200 in the meet!

Usaswimming. Tweeted that a bit over 1500 kids qualified. So no most are going to this meet it’s not anywhere near 3500

That’s what I was just about to ask. If anybody had heard if Andrew was going to be swimming at this meet.

I have no inside information. But, earlier this year, he went on what seemed like a three-week tear of several meets in a row. Wasn’t he dropping NAG records every weekend for a while? Given that, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s planning on swimming both Junior Nationals and Nationals, and swimming fast at both.

At Sr Nationals.. the top 6 100/200 goes to relay? Or Not? If guys like seliskar and dressel does not go to Pan pac, they will have to go to Pan Pacs Jr. right? Who (from the other nations youngsters) are going to Pan Pacs Jr.? Are the ones Australia, etc. sending to pan pacs jr the best they have or the best are going to YOG?

Rafael – not for Pan Pacs. There’s only four for each relay at Pan Pacs, because there’s no prelims relays.

Hey swimman – we haven’t heard for sure yet, but based on the typical timeline…I would guess Thursday or Friday of this week.

Agreed. Makes no sense to have top 18 and unders compete at Jrs.

I love watching every year that meet. 😎
It’s cool to see these young swimmers in action before they become big stars.
I remember watching Missy Franklin in 2009, Vlad Morozov in 2010 (even if he isn’t American), Katie Ledecky, Lia Neal and Gunnar Bentz in 2011, Cierra Runge and Andrew Seliskar in 2012 or Caeleb Dressel, Townley Haas, Ella Eastin and Katie McLaughlin last year.
Who will shine this time? I have my little idea. 🙂

WHO??? I’d love to see a BoBo GiGI pre Jrs. analysis on who will break out this year. You always seem to have a great read on these things. Of course, being that it is Jrs, there will no doubt be some surprises from off the radar which makes it exciting as well. I’m waiting…..as are your other fans.

Why would top juniors with a shot at the Pan Pacs team compete in this meet? If I was Dressel of Seliskar I would hold off until Nationals.

Back in May, Seliskar made it sound like he was just planning on swimming the last day of Junior Nationals. Dressel may do the same. For those coming from the East Coast, I guess it makes sense to get out to California well in advance of Senior Nationals, get settled in and used to the time change, etc. I don’t think you’re going to see a full schedule from any of 18 & unders who have a real shot at making the Pan Pacs or World teams. http://swimswam.com/andrew-seliskar-olympic-hunt-swims-charlotte-grand-prix/

Perhaps it’s just a security if they don’t qualify for Pan Pacs.
I don’t know.
Seliskar has a good chance to be top 3 in the 200 fly so for him it’s not the case.
But you talk about Dressel. I don’t think he has a chance to qualify this year.
At least if they swim at Juniors, they can qualify for junior pan pacs.
I see that as a precaution.
Or simply they just want to have a good warm-up the week before Nationals, swim in the same pool as Nationals and take a little advantage.

Can only qualify for Jr Pan/Pacs trip team (top 2) at Sr. Nationals. Top 6 National Jr Team
can qualify from other meets.
