World Cup points update: Hosszu, Le Clos primed to repeat with one meet left

Katinka Hosszu and Chad le Clos have just about clinched repeat victories on the World Cup circuit, leading their respective genders handily with just one meet to go.

Hosszu put up a field-best 132 points in Tokyo, and le Clos added 60. Each lead by a longshot in the overall points.

It looks like Daniel Gyurta will wind up second for the men, as his 295 are over 60 points up on third place, and that spot belongs to Tom Shields, who hasn’t competed in any of the third-cluster meets so far and seems doubtful to show up in Singapore this weekend.

Inge Dekker is second for the women, but the best battle will be for third place, where Alia Atkinson and Mireia Belmonte are tied at 255. Atkinson has been on a roll through the third cluster, but if Belmonte can get by Hosszu in a few races as she did in Tokyo, she could wind up stealing the third-place slot.

Once again, it was Le Clos and Hosszu taking the top performance bonuses for their genders. Hosszu has earned the top bonus, worth 24 points, at every meet so far this season.

Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson swam for nearly twenty years. Then, Jared Anderson stopped swimming and started writing about swimming. He's not sick of swimming yet. Swimming might be sick of him, though. Jared was a YMCA and high school swimmer in northern Minnesota, and spent his college years swimming breaststroke and occasionally pretending …
