World Junior Champion Grant House Gives Verbal Commitment to ASU

Grant House of Countryside YMCA and St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, OH, has verbally committed to Arizona State and Bob Bowman’s increasingly dangerous Sun Devils team.  House, an Ohio high school state champion in the 200 and 500 freestyles, was listed as SwimSwam’s 7th-best male recruit for the class of 2017.

An Olympic Trials qualifier and a 2015 World Junior Champion by way of Team USA’s 800 freestyle relay in Singapore, House has already garnered experience racing the best swimmers in the world and will likely only continue to climb in the ranks under the tutelage of Bowman, who has coached some of the best middle-distance swimmers to ever grace the pool, including Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt.

Some of House’s best times are:

50 Free 20.96
100 Free 44.26
200 Free 1:35.28
500 Free 4:22.96
200 IM 1:47.82
400 IM 3:53.08
200 Breast 1:59.88

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email to [email protected].

WELL SAID!! Those are the facts folks. Not just House, but we should celebrate all of our seniors who have chosen to continue their swimming careers! Everyone hits bumps in the road… No need for haters. Great addition to a growing and up and coming Sun Devil program… Can’t wait to see where they go from here!

1:54 at trials in 200 free… Sounds like he gave up in that race…. His 1:35 was from a meet against nobody, his Jr. World champ time was from a leading relay swing…Then swam fast at some nobody meet later in this summer. If that how it is going to be for him at NCAAs or Pac12s, ASU is going to some recruits that know how to swim fast regardless of if they are going to get their booty kicked! They don’t have that leadership right now… That is for sure.

If that’s the case, he is going to go 1:32 next year……against Arizona. Then 1:36 at NCAA 🙂

I know a lot of kids at Trials didn’t fully taper and just went for the experience because they knew they didn’t have a chance at qualifying. I’d assume that’s what House did. I wouldn’t read too much into it

‘A lot kids’…. Trials was a qualification meet for Jr. Pan Pacs, so I am sure ‘a lot of Fast kids’ fully shave and taper to qualify for that meet.

I bet he saved his taper for the National YMCA LC meet a few weeks after the Trials

Hmmm,1:35 in a meet against nobody? I know some Ohio people that would be pretty offended by this comment. OH HS State Champs is a very big deal. Looks like ONE of his 1:35’s came against Tommy Cope and Michael Riellman. Those boys are now scholarship swimmers at Michigan and Tennessee respectively. Check your sources Redman

Impressive get by Bowman and ASU. With his ability to draw top recruits (and I’m guessing he’s got some knack for helping kids improve too), ASU should be at least a top-20 program in a few years.

I’m sorry but if a university pay $250k for a swim coach, they need to be top 5 not top 20.

Good get for ASU!! But what happened to him at Trials?

Bob Bowman is worth a lot more that $250k.

What about Agnel, Hoff, Dwyer…

Dwyer swam very well under Bowman. He probably spent more time training with Bowman than Salo in the 6 months leading up to the games. Even though he hasn’t been the same since he left Phillipe Lucas, Agnel credits Bowman for keeping him in the sport. yes, Hoff and others bombed with Bob, but I think you can say that about a great many other coaches.

I think he makes over $500k per year minimum… it should be public knowledge since it is a public university.

It would be nice if everyone could just say congratulations to this young man and ASU. What difference does it make if you are top 5 or top 50 or even top 200? One thing I have learned as a swim parent for over 12 years is that you can’t count anyone out. My son didn’t even have a National cut until this year but he is a late bloomer and is still developing. He has been dropping about 2- 4 seconds (depending on the race) each year in most of his races but no one knows who he is yet. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t worthy of attending a top school. There are a lot of factors that… Read more »
