Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Cardinal Aquatics’ Sean Mackey has verbally committed to swim at the University of Kentucky starting in the fall of 2022, after taking a gap year.

“I’m humbled and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the University of Kentucky. I want to thank God, my family, friends, and coaches for making this possible. I also want to thank the entire staff at Kentucky for giving me this amazing opportunity. Go Cats!!!🔵⚪️🔵”

Mackey primarily specializes in mid-distance freestyle events and the 400 IM. Mackey’s high school doesn’t have a swim program, so he swims year-round with Cardinal Aquatics in Louisville.

His lone Winter Juniors cut was achieved at the 2021 Kentucky LC State Championships when he won the 200 free in 1:55.50. He was out in 54.97, which is only about 0.7 seconds off his best 100 free time (54.24) that he achieved the following week in a time trial at Futures.

Mackey has also proven to show up on big relay performances, having split 21.35 and 45.94 on the free relays at the Kentucky state meet.

His best times (SCY) include:

  • 50 free – 21.89
  • 100 free – 46.60
  • 200 free – 1:40.06
  • 500 free – 4:33.82
  • 400 IM – 4:04.08

Kentucky is a Division I program that competes out of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). At the 2021 SEC Championships, the Kentucky men finished seventh out of 10 teams. based on the 2020-2021 top times, Mackey would’ve been the Wildcats’ 5th fastest 50 freestyler and their 6th fastest in the 400 IM.

Mackey will join Kevin Glennon, Logan Ingerick, Drew Johnson, Phillip Khenner, Brady McInerney, Ryan Merani, McCord Riegler, Logan Smith and Levi Sandidge, who is SwimSwam’s No. 18-ranked recruit of the entire high school class of 2022, as members of the incoming class of 2026.
