For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school junior Paige Housman from Tucson, Arizona has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky for the 2023-24 school year.

“Twelve years of early morning practices, long distance sets, and never ending meet weekends have led me to this point. It has always been a dream, and has now become a reality. I am honored to announce that I have verbally committed to swim at the University of Kentucky. Go Cats!!😸💙”

Housman attends Pusch Ridge Christian Academy and does her year-round swimming with Flying Fish Arizona Swim Team. Mainly a freestyle specialist, she is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 400/800/1500 free and 400 IM. She is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and Arizona High School Division III state champion in the 100 free. She also placed second in the 200 free to help the Pusch Ridge Lions finish second in the team rankings.

Housman had a strong summer long course season, improving her lifetime bests in the 50/800/1500 free at TYR 18&U Spring Cup in Orlando; the 200/400 free and 200 IM at West Fargo Futures; and the 100 free and 100 fly at Arizona Swimming Senior Long Course Championships. Earlier in the spring she had also updated her times in the 100/200 back, 100/200 breast, and 200 fly. At West Fargo Futures, she finaled in the 200 free (11th), 400 free (6th), 800 free (12th), 1500 free (7th), 200 IM (12th), and 400 IM (8th). She won the 50/100 free at the Arizona State Meet.

Housman competed at the Four Corners Sectionals meet in March, where she came away with new PBs in all six events she swam: the 50/100/200/500 free and 100/200 fly.

Best SCY times:

  • 1650 free – 16:57.39
  • 1000 free – 10:12.09
  • 500 free – 4:52.83
  • 200 free – 1:50.75
  • 100 free – 51.50
  • 50 free – 23.89

Housman is the second verbal commitment to the Kentucky class of 2027. She will join Madi McGlothen, who made her announcement last week. The Kentucky women won their first-ever SEC Championship title in 2021, after 40 years of women’s swimming in the SEC.
